Anyone on here put an aftermarket exhaust on their GTI and would you recommend?
I quite like the look of Akrapovic although not the look of the price tag!
The "slip on" (catback) is £1600

You start then going for the likes of BCS, Milltek, Cobra, Scorpion and APR
The quality on the Akras is in a different league all depends how deep you pockets are

Dont really want to go for a full system. Just unsure if 1.6k for a cutback is worth it.

How about a Clubsport system? Apparently gives a bit more sound if that's what you're after?
-
Got a Remus axle back on mine and love it, zero drone and doesn't sound like the Corsa down McDonalds.

Has anyone tried a clubsport exhaust on their gti yet? I would like a bit more noise myself but want to keep it as close to oem as possible.
I see you can buy the cs backbox, is anyone aware if this would have much affect on the noise?
Whilst I am still.loving the car, a bit more noise would increase the enjoyment for me, but I really don't want anything too otters!

I think its the clubsport backbox that you swap out.
I read on another post on here about it but its vage in my mind

Contact a company called meerkat exhausts in kilbirnie Scotland he has done a members on here and still has his old exhaust there he can use as a template

I can recommend the Remus quad catback system.
-
I've got a Powerflow catback in the garage that I could be tempted to part with for £250?
-
I notice Kunsmann also sell the CS centre silencer, which I would assume gives a little more noise.
I may have a look at this a little more closely. Does anyone know if it's a straight swap or is the bore different on the CS exhaust?
-
Without creating a new thread, can some shed some light on this question for me. Is there a milltek exhaust especially for a GTD with the sport and sound pack?

Think Waggers got AMD to manufacture a flange on the existing system mating it to the rear section of the milltek.

The CS exhaust has a smaller diameter after the centre box to the rear box> It is a stepped pipe so if fitting both it shouldn't be a problem. However i would only change for the CSS as this system has a larger bore from the centre to the rear box, probably only needed on the CSS but why not try it.
These are the CS exhaust system pics showings slightly smaller dia

I can recommend the BCS downpipe which I have fitted to the existing system with a reducing pipe (3" down to 2 1/2"). It smoothes out the pipe, placing the Cat further down (100 Cel) producing a nice burble.

Thank for the link.
That guys car has some nice modifications on it. Not so sure about the kuftek sound thing but the Milltek sounds good with the GTD sound speaker.
I think with wheels, exhaust and other bits and bobs I will be spending a fair bit on the car even before I get it. Maybe making a funny face at my wife when she bought a pair of shoes in Brown Thomas yesterday for €590

Anyone fitted a Milltek catback to a GTI? Looking at the catback system with the black tips.

That's the one I've got, just you've gone for the black tailpipes. I went for the standard polished stainless one's for 2 reasons...
1. I thought the black one's might get a bit lost against the black diffuser.
2. I'm tight!!
Apart from that, it's really good, not too loud but nice and sporty sounding.

Thats good to know. All the youtube videos i've watched aren't great. Can you confirm they don't give it justice? Do you get any pops on overrun?
-
No pops and bangs though - you might get them if you do the downpipe too but not with just the cat back on the Golf - my Astra VXR used to do it all the time with just a catback, it's down to the car I'm afraid.
Quality is spot on and it's possible to fit it by just reversing it up a set of ramps.

Do you have any videos you could share of the sound? Thanks for the info anyway just trying to decide whether to get one now. Really like the akrapovic but it's very pricey.
