Hi guys. New to the board. Hoping for a bit of advice....
I'll have a budget of around £6000 for a mk5 Gti in about a month or so.
Ideally looking for
Black
Leather
70k ish (or just gone through cambelt replace)
My searches are starting to ramp up a bit to see what I can get for the cash and the question I keep asking myself is dsg or manual.
I always assumed that I'd go for a manual but would like to see if there's any argument for the dsg. I've only ever drove manuals....
Any thoughts on the subject? (I couldn't see an existing thread for this)

I've drove a DSG Gti and loved it, but it really is a personal preference, I only drove my father in laws about 10-15 miles, but not sure I could live with it all the time, I like to be able to 'drive' the car, if you get my meaning, test a few, see how you get on, make sure you you get one that has had the DSG Box serviced and oil change to keep it smooth.

It really is a cracking bit of kit, and it is a novelty at first, slick gear changes, and the performance is there, but I think it could get boring, my a4 was multitronic, which is CVT (continuously variable transmission) and I loved it at first, but the novelty soon wore off...saying that the a4 isn't a GTI lol

Whilst testing is good you very rarely get a full feel for it :sad:
I'm still learning after having lived with it for 12 months!
There are occasions when it annoys me; its mostly when slowing down to a junction / roundabout and it drops you into 2nd when it could stay in 3rd
Mines 7 speed so not sure if the same will apply to the 6 speed boxes but it's definitely annoying!!
Other than that it's a superb bit of kit :cool:

I agree. you won't get the best out of it on a test drive. It took me over 3 months to learn how to use it. Now I drive with it in manual mode 99% of the time so I can control what gear it is in. Anyone who says it takes the fun out of driving has probably put it in D or S and left it there.

I remapped a Scirocco a couple of months back and the owner had NO IDEA sports mode existed, let alone use the paddles!!
