I know this is a 4wd (hoping im being correct there)
But how good are the diffs etc and how powerful is the engine???
-
90bhp as standard and 5 door only......
but i just so happen to know where there is a custom built 3 dr one (no fat boy rallye body) running the synchro running gear, with a mk3 2.0 16v 150 bhp lump, electric recaros etc.. tis a top car been stored for last seven years.. any info wanted pm me...

It's just a thought at the moment.....haven't got the money (bloosy student bar prices+vinyl, draining the back account)
Its just me thinking......
-
you can also get a 160bhp G60 synchro :)
-
just they be rare as hens teeth.....

Every so often a Golf Syncro pops up on ebay and they usually go for less than a grand. Just get one and swap the engine for a nice 16v or VR6.
Am I right in thinking that the running gear in the standard Golf Syncro is the same as the G60 Syncro and maybe the Rallye?
In which case you could easily put more power through it.
A while ago one of the mags featured a Mk1 that had had the running gear transplanted from a Syncro and had a 1.8T running 300bhp or so.

thats nuts! some people just have no idea when to stop!
-
according to my bro, who seems to be a big book of knowledge when it comes to golfs....the running gears isnt the same as the g60, and he double checked it on etka.....
But i have had a few ideas  think quatro..... and tt.......
so who wants to loan me the money for this

Are you referring to the mk2 syncro (1800 carb )( GU engine) ? If so they have drum rear brakes but I'm sure they have the mounting points for the rear calipers so I'd imagine it wouldn't be to difficult to convert them to discs .
Hope this helps , Oli

Cheers man, this is just me thinking, the brain will move on to something else soon....like back to my beetle....
-
there is a mk3 vr6 powered synchro too... the only RHD to my knowledge is the mk4 4motion

good link

A mate of been had a G60 syncro (LHD) with about 200bhp but said it was slow coz the 4 wheel drive system slowed it down, ideally if u want a syncro u need about 250-300bhp to feel the benefit he reckons.
Was a nice car tho and i would of bit his hand of if he offered a good price for it but ufortunately was out of my price range when he sold it.

I thought the running gear was the same on all the syncros but just with different gearboxes?
-
Hmmmmm........ if soooooo........that would mean i would only have to change the gear box
