Hi all, new to the forum, apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I couldn't see any specific references
Currently driving a BMW 116i and looking to upgrade to a Golf R Estate
My local dealer informs me that VW are no longer taking new orders on the Mark 7, and that new orders for the 2017 facelift version will not start until April with delivery early 2018 - is this really true?!
Second question is that my local dealer has a good spec Mark7 R Estate available now, but without DCC - any thoughts on not having this option?
-
Plenty of them on eBay if you want one now

My R estate as its a rental does not have DCC, my hatch did and wifes does have DCC and not really missed it.
Ride is a little firmer than the hatch (when unladed) so if its got 19s may be a bit more noticeable which I think is a damping issue rather than springs

Barrym - true, I'm just tempted by getting one brand new with my exact spec but if I have to wait until early 2018 for delivery then that becomes a lot less appealing!
Wigit - thanks, that's interesting to hear

I don't think the dealers know jack at the moment about any facelifted golf orders.
I would expect that from when the order books open, you'd expect delivery in 20 to 30 weeks.

My dealer told me that orders for the Mk7.5 start in February. Though I can see it taking a couple of months more for the Golf R orders, with deliveries expected after the summer.
DCC is a must have option for me. It depends on the roads you drive and what you are used to.
Did you ask for a test drive?

I'd love to know what dealer said this, so that I could steer well away

I have spoke to 3 different dealers recently about seeing if they any golf R's in, and 1 did not know anything about if they were doing a facelift on the R. Another said April for order books to open and another said Feb.
If you want an R estate now there is one in Doncaster VW in limestone grey I have just walked past this morning.

Watched a youtube vid last night. Guy had bought a 66 plate Golf R. I did'nt know the quad exhausts, the 2 inners are fake.

The irony is its fake, doesn't have the valves but sounds way better than the hatch work that one out

All R orders are now from stock, the books have been closed a while and facelift non 'performance Golfs' start in RHD in the next few weeks if they haven't already.
The R estate will ride better than a 116i even without DCC from my experiences. You have to allow for the fact the R is a 300PS car so will expect a few bumps to be felt and heard but it has a pretty cosseting ride even on standard suspension considering what it is.
Bearing in mind the R had a 6 to 9 month waiting list at its peak then your dealer can be forgiven for the timescales he's put to you, he will want you to be signing for a car ASAP as that's what his livelihood depends on! The order books will open for the FL cars sooner or later but I do think there will likely be a long wait for the performance models unless you're really lucky.

My two series has a better ride than the R with and without, its stiffer but you can damping is better and takes speed bumps with aplomb

There are still some R estates about and you should get 20% off it atm. Good luck getting anywhere near that off the new one when it opens for ordering in feb and list price will also be more.
