Fit an induction kit or not ? this may be the only mod I do ( but I have been looking at cat back miltek ! ) is it worth it ? I also heard of loss of power with only an induction kit fitted ..

Utter waste of money unless you're doing stage 2 mods.
Buy a Pedalbox instead.
Of more interest: how does the mk7 GTI feel after running a mk6 R? That must be an interesting comparison.

As I thought with the induction kit .... its early days yet with the GTI , I only got it Christmas eve , but so far I'm loving it ! haven't pushed it much but have noticed the reduction in traction off the line .. but I'm now being a responsible driver ! due to a 6 month ban for totting up points !
this is also the first 5 door golf iv owned and I'm liking it . I was actually after a GTD but this 2014 GTI showed its face with only 7300 miles on the clock

Oooops! That's the trouble with living somewhere with great driving roads I guess.
The GTI is very underrated in mk7 guise as it lives in the shadow of the R and looks hugely down on power but in reality, aside from lack of traction, it goes really well at *sensible* speeds.
And now that you're a reformed character you'll appreciate that...
The GTD is a great car too and probably just as quick as a GTI in real world usage. I've spent a bit of time with GTD's when I had my GTI and it's swings and roundabouts. The GTI is almost Diesel like in its power delivery (lots of torque and hence traction issues) and pretty good on fuel too so it's quite a good halfway house between an R and a GTD.
As for the Miltek, they do sound good but won't give you any more ponies, you just have to drive the GTI a bit like a Diesel to get the best performance out of it if you're not going to remap it.
Use the torque Luke as someone once said in a Star Wars movie.
Mind you some fatter tailpipes wouldn't go amiss on the GTI. The ClubSport has fatter tailpipes and looks all the better for it. You could probably just buy some trims to make the GTI pipes look a bit meaner. I looked into that when I had my GTI but never found a set, so ended up buying four pipes and another driven axle...

I wouldn't bother with an induction either.
£300 + for a induction kit, and £800 + for Miltek.
However if you want to physically change something.
Remove the baffle plate or snow guard from the air box and fit a BMC filter in the original box, this will add a little induction noise with arguably no negatives. = £40
Buy and fit the CSS rear exhaust box it has larger tail pipes, likely reduced baffling and more exhaust noise. = £350
Remove the soundaktor to hear the car with the new mods, and not a 50mm speaker next to the windscreen. = Free
If you are after a change in noise and looks this would be the cheaper process, just a thought

I've currently got a Milltek cat back fitted and at one stage I had a Pipercross induction kit on it too. Didn't notice any loss of power due to the induction kit but I eventually removed it as the induction noise became a bit tiresome, whereas the exhaust noise is now 'just right'.
Also, as has been said, the tailpipes do look loads better on it though.

I removed the Standard filter from the airbox on my GTD and fitted a K&N - done it with past two cars and it made a diffference. Discovered "Sport mode" on both DSG and Driving. Have been addicted to the noise since
Havent done enogh miles on the filter to know if anything has loosened up. I broke 1000 miles today though.
Personally I Don't trust engine bay induction kits, as heat bleed etc was supposedly an issue and caused performance loss on the last diesel I had (according to my research), so I kept the airbox and changed the filter, 10 min job.
YMMV -
My 1.8 Astra Petrol Auto was up from 140 BHP standard to 156 (roller tested) with K&N and derestricted VXR Intake.
My 2.0 CDTI Auto went up from 163BHP book, to 174.9, also (roller tested) Just K&N.
Both cars were running Shell VPower (unleaded or Diesel) when tested and the Rolling Road guys did more than one run to average out - it was an AON (astra owners network) jaunt, with both cars and we went to the same Rolling road.

Also these are perfect bits of kit. The JB1 for the GTI. Good gains, and the G7R boys rave about these.

I've not seen many graphs of the JB1 on a GTI but can vouch for the performance of it on an R.
The JB4 will take it to another level too if you like fiddling with settings

Just ordered a replacement filter ( not K&N this time ) a piper cross.

Completely forgot I had got a pipercross panel filter in too as well as removing the snow filter. Just need to remove the plastic blocking the drivers side vent into the airbox.
