Hi , first post here and looking to see if anyone has had a similar issue to me.
I have a 2010 Golf R and recently on long drives where I have had headlights on (so instrument cluster is fully illuminated) after about 45 mins to an hour the temperature gauge and fuel gauge illumination has completely failed including the needles. If I turn ignition off and on again immediately the issue remains but if left for a few hours it's fine again until I go for a longish drive.
The rest of the cluster illumination is fine .
Anyone ever heard of anything like this ??
Should point out the cluster has never been modified in any way ie. SMD colour change.

Sorry can mods move to mk6 chat . Mobile view let me down lol

Havent heard of your problem before but my wives mk6 GTD when the lights are on they flicker up to full and back down again quite a lot , They are on auto all the time so I don't know if its just that or not , have tried on normal and it does it but not as much or at least I don't notice it .
Its due for a service so might ask them to have a quick look .
Good luck finding the fault with the R ...

Cheers , just hoping it's not going to need a new speedo cluster as I can't imagine them being cheap

Try to find someone on the forum near you with a VCDS (VAGcom) cable and scan the car to see if any fauly is recorded and/or check how it is set up.

I've ordered a vcds cable off fleabay so I'll check it out when it arrives.
Been meaning to order 1 for a while as I need to code out the brake pad warning as my bbk doesn't agree with the sensor
