Title: Front camber settings on vw r springs
Post by: Jdm owner on 13 December 2016, 17:53
Hi,All

Just had some vw r springs fitted, before and after camber setting as follows.

Front left -1.35 Front Right -0.31 standard springs

After front Left -1.32 front right -0.34 lowered

Do these setting look right. Thought they would be more or less the same. Both sides.

AFAIK they should be.

To get them the same apparently they would need to loosen and move the subframe. Luckily when.I had my Eibach springs fitted they were fairly equal.

Would have been interesting to see what it was like before the springs went on (unless that's what you meant).

Have the ball joints got 3 bolts onto the wishbone. Thay can be loosed and pulled or pushed to adjust camber slightly.
Seems you have -1 degree more on one side. As said the other way is to slacken subframe and move it while on the wheel alignment

I am thinking of these too, your thoughts would be good and any pics would be great.

They should be equal or close to it as you can get them for optimum handling. It looks like they have been out, probably since it was manufactured.

The suggestions above would seem to provide you with a simple solution.

These were before and after springs fitted.
No issues driving handles as is should do.
Will keep an eye on tire wear. The mechanic who carried the work out said all was fine on alignment.

The mechanic will always try to reassure you rather than drop the subframe and spend more time with a car on the ramp that doesn't return money..

However
1: You won't be able to feel the difference between the camber values anyway as 1 degree is a smallish amount.
2: By the time you notice tyre wear its normally too late, but the difference in camber won't play a significant part anyway as toe in/out would normally ruin road car tyres long before camber.

What you have got is not totally ideal but not a major issue
