Looking some input here
Regarding the lack of space saver or mobility kit I've bought a space saver and intend to fit the tool kit inside the rim and buy a wheel protection bag to put in the car when I would go on a longer journey However I noticed there is no where to mount/screw the wheel to the floor . I'd thought of a luggage net but as the car doesn't have the adjustable floor the mount points for the net will sit a few inches above the floor and won't secure the space saver.
Anyone any ideas on how to secure this on the occasion I want to put it in the car
Was going to buy a weather tech floor mat to put over the rear if we go away for the weeekend and want to put luggage in the rear and that should cover the space saver but looking at pics of a standard boot floor and that the CSS I'm not sure the liner will fit as the side panels look slightly different
Just want to make sure should anything happen I don't have a space saver and tool kit unsecured.
I'll buy the mobility kit just to have in the car for shorter journeys as a fallback
-
Covering it with a net or floor mat could be fatal in the even of a collision.
You'll really need to secure it somehow. In fact even any luggage in there might cause problems in a collision as there are no rear seats to prevent things coming flying at you.

Totally agree that why I need a method of securing it.
The luggage net and a couple of straps should keep an overnight bag in place on the load liner.
Just don't want to beat round the ears with something flying around inside the car should anything happen
-
I wouldn't bother with a spare unless it was a full size one anyway, even if it came with a space saver
-
Any of you guys know what exactly does come with it.
I emailed VW but ABSOLUTELY FOOK ALL response.

Lee will check the car tomorrow when I'm at the dealers but I didn't see anything

Some gunk?

Nothing in it but the toe eye will now be supplied
The space saver fits in the boot and can be screwed into place
The tool kit will need to be the type that fits into the wheel or if using the new type of tool kit you'd need to Velcro it into place
Also looks like the low level load liner fits so that would cover the spare and the tool kit

My dealer gave me the compressor & gunk kit included - they agreed that it's ridiculous not been given any means of fixing a flat.

Fit front tow hook to Golf GTI Clubsport S
VW1386-16
|
12 DEC 2016
You must fit the front tow hook to Golf GTI Clubsport S models. The hook is a requirement of UK law so make sure it is fitted before the car is registered or handed over to customers.
Order the hook (part number 8K0805615) and claim for it in SAGA/2 using the code 1CS.
Golf GTI Clubsport S models have been shipped without the hook, although the cap and bolt on the front bumper are present.
Black roof
In May when the vehicle was first unveiled, the teaser communication on Desktop and in the press stated that a black roof was planned on all models along with the line 'exact price and specification is yet to be confirmed.'
Between this press release in May and the open for ordering date in August orders were taken for all 150 models. The final specification (VW0926-16) included Discover Navigation and heated seats that weren’t listed in the May press release.
Specification
When we released the final specification in August we believed Front Assist and Light and Sight pack were not available on the GTI Clubsport S but it is apparent that these items have been built on UK models.
This limited edition model was outside of any normal set-up, configuration and sales process and so the customers benefit from these items without them being built into the price of the vehicle.
We are writing to customers to clarify the black roof, but please make your customers aware of the additional specification.
No emergency inflation kit or spare wheel
To save weight, the Golf GTI Clubsport S does not come with an emergency inflation kit or spare wheel. See VW0926-16 for more information.

Sorry I understand you are the messenger of this info but this is a poor response, if VW wanted to save weight they could have left out any number of items, Nav, radio, heated seats, Air con, 19 Prets, light and sight pack, added a smaller 1tr washer bottle if they wanted for the figures, then allowed customers to add to the weight with what ever options they wanted. The headline weight figure would still be intact, but to leave out a method of moving the car if you get a puncture is ridiculous. Lots of lightweight cars have been made over the years and most if not all came with this basic feature, R26R had tyre foam, some even came with spare wheel and tools (964 RS).
I can't understand why you would have Discovery Nav in a car you wouldn't drive very far just in case you get a puncture...
-
Spot on
I can't remember what my 26R had but my 964RS had the space saver along with all the other bits
It's a very poor excuse from VW, pathetic as these items are easily removed
I've written a strong letter to my dealer with other points of dissatisfaction as VW UK haven't bothered to give me a response.

They wouldn't let the press drive them without a van full of tyres present, say no more.

I'm not too fussed as their compressor and foam kit would have required the boot liner which I guess would have added more weight. I can stick a can of the foam stuff in the glovebox.
It's not a regular car in any case so not really worth getting all worked up about a spare wheel.
Lets face it once you start ripping the back seats out of a golf moaning about the lack of a spare seems a bit silly.

You clearly have missed the point.
Taking seats out is completely different to immobilizing the car with a puncture and claiming it was to save weight.
@Viper the 964rs had a nice little (much smaller than normal) carpet with the tools spare and all the other parts under the bonnet exposed. Seem to remember my 964 smelling of petrol under the bonnet, still loved it though.

If you want a car with a spare buy a CS or a Gti. I view the CS-S as more of a track car not s practical hatchback.

Does CSS come with a trailer as well as otherwise you need to drive on roads and are therefore prone to punctures?
Put it this way, the 'ring is a long way away
UK press launch was on roads so they aren't irrelevant to its remit (and they had a puncture!)

Er?
You say that like its a track focused weapon... But it has nav, heated seats, AC and light and sight pack, its to be enjoyed whether on or off a track. Do you think it should only be taking to trackdays on a trailer? Or do you think owners should be able to drive to the circuit, or enjoy the Evo triangle, or B road blast?

I think that the road noise would grate very quickly as a daily driver - a standard GTD/GTI/R is far noisier with just the back seats down to extend the boot (in a way that would surely be replicated in a bigger way in a CSS without back seats and a boot floor). Add in a reduction in other sound insulation, and on a practical level only being 20ps up on the CS (you'll be in license losing territory on public roads before you run out of boost with the CS and are down to 265ps). Depends what you are coming from I suppose, but coming from another Golf rather than something like a little Lotus, you'll notice a lack of refinement when driving on the roads in a lawfully enthusiastic way.

...or the remote Northumberland roads on which EVO tested it for ECOTY (not ETCOTY)
-
If it's meant for the road then it would come with either a space saver or a foam kit. It could on the other hand just be a ploy from vw to get owners to buy something else from them that they should have got from the beginning  Either way it's turned out to be not that practical a road car really and defeats the object of the car. It's like VW have literally said that's the car that did the ring lap so that's what we'll sell and sod everything else.
-
I wouldn't want a spare wheel. Can't remember the last car I bought that actually had one.

I think the record car's roll cage weighs more than some tyre foam and pump.

That's right, tiny carpet covering the wheel, battery cut off on the right.

Be it a space saver or a mobility kit the car should have came with one or the other - even though the mobility kit won't help in every flat tyre situation .Being stuck in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of the night waiting for a breakdown to recover you isn't my idea of fun.
I've a space saver, a space saver tool kit and a space saver storage bag bought if I feel the need to put them in the car I can and I've also a mobility kit ordered also should I just choose to carry that.
With a bit of searching the space saver kit and tool kit can be securely mounted to the floor with no issues of it becoming loose . Should I wish to do this I can cover with a load liner - though that isn't necessary.
If I go to track the car I can simply remove them and reduce the weight but in everyday use I hardly think the performance will be affected.
Anyways each to their own and what they decide to do or not to do.
Let's face it the towing eye issue was an over site by VW and personally I think the lack of at least a mobility kit was too.

Sean. I agree - VW oversight ... as so many of the CSS small details have become.
-
I know the mobility kit is not a guaranteed fix but at least it's there and until you have a puncture and find out it's not very good you just forget about the lack of spare wheel because in the actually quite unlikely event of a puncture the kit should get you out of trouble.
With nothing supplied I will be constantly worrying.
Should I have to lug a can of tyre foam 169 miles on public transport when I collect my £34k zero discount car?
A no cost option like the aircon delete as to whether you want a mobility kit would have been good.
Likewise a luggage net which weighs nothing is almost negligent in its absence, even if it's just for helmets.
Maybe VW should have done what Ferrari do with the FXX and just deliver the car to tracks for us, don't bother road registering it all?

I've just got a kit off ebay, Continental with pump and foam, brand new £12 delivered. It even has a foam insert for the boot, not sure what car is off but a lot seem to be Nissan but can't see they wont be compatible with a Schaeder valved tyre on any car. Going rate is £20-£30 and still cheap then considering foam is £40+ from dealer.

I wrote to VW customer complaints 3 times and have only just had a response some 2 weeks on
The dozy doris says:
"After looking at your owners manual you do have a towing eye socket, please click the link below and refer to the index"
So that's not what I asked, I asked about the Towing Eye and all the rest of the emergency kit to which she makes no reference and then gives me a lazy link in which is a load of German blurb
Oh Thanks

I got a vw inflation kit 7h0 601 703 from a transporter van for my CSS

Can’t see how VW couldn’t have just included this if they were so intent on removing the space saver.
1.5kg wouldn’t have made any difference to a lap time I reckon.
Got a brand new one on eBay for £25
