Title: Few mods 2day nothin serious :)
Post by: Gabouk on 07 December 2016, 19:40
Ok so today has been a looooong day lol, but its been worth it :) she looks much better from stock, so I'm happs  iv posted some pics of todays work. nothing serious, just a few bits to make it more "excuse me, can you get out of my way"  even though nothings been done to the front

anyway Whats been done is Roofs been wrapped in gloss black, was genuinely thinking about getting it sprayed, but when the guy told me £400, an the wrap is £100, it was a easy decision lol
but i still would of preferred the spray, but I'm happy the way it looks

The rear Lights have also been tinted, which i think adds a nice touch to the rear of the car,
think i might make the GTi badge black as well, to suit the blackness in the rear, but not sure, cause i do like the redness

also full tints round, limo black in the rear an 35% in the front

an tomoz im gonna be fitting the Carbon Fibre mirror caps, which should be fun an fiddly lol

Nxt on the list, i want to get some VMR wheels, an an akrapovic rear box with the diffuser, still debating about the exhaust, i know its alot of money, just for the rear box on its on even, but il see , might not even do it, but the wheels i really really really want

http://www.velocitymotoring.com/wheels/v710ff-2/

iv already spoken to some guy in the States an he's saying $1700 which includes shipping, which is cough cough quite alot, if any of lot know where i can get those wheels id be ever so grateful,  or il have to have a long hard think about if i really want the wheels lol  :undecided:

anyway , hope you guys like the pic, i apologise for not having a finished pic of the car, but il get that done when i get the Mirror caps on, tomoz or the next day, scouts promise

Also massive thank you to Car Tuning in Cricklewood :) great job guys, deffo recommend them

all feedback is always welcome good or bad, i dont mind  also any suggestions you guys have, I'm all ears

Looking good Gabouk, I'd keep the red GTI badge for the contrast or it can look too black and white. As for removing the mirror caps, from trial and error the easiest way is to remove the glass. Angle it down and away from the car so you can get your fingers behind and carefully pull it off. You can then get to the two clips much easier. This way you can get them off in seconds rather than minutes with the glass still fitted. Oh, and keep one hand at the front of the caps as they can come off suddenly and fall on the floor

Hey Watts :)

thanks for the comment bro,

yea i think ur right, think leaving the red on the GTi is the right move, as you mentioned it might look a bit to black an white

yea iv seen some you tube videos on how to remove the mirror caps, so I'm kinda ready for it, but your never really ready until you actually start it lol.
but thanks for the feedback an the advice on how to remove the glass an caps without damaging them

I like the black roof Gabouk but I'm not too keen on the tinted rear lights (sorry!). I like the LED detailing in the original GTI / GTD / R rear light clusters, and by wrapping them in tinted vinyl, it looks as if you loose the detail, although it might just be the lighting in the photo that makes it look that way.

I really like the VMR alloys and I think they'd look good on your car. If you haven't already done so, if you do decide to buy them, ensure you check with the supplier on the offset of the wheels to ensure the inner and outer clearance between the wheel and suspension parts and wheel arch edges is OK and you won't get any fouling/rubbing (the link to the VMR  page doesn't give any offset details).

Have you considered any wheels other than the VMR's? There are other reputable manufacturers that make similar design wheels in anthracite / gunmetal colour and 19" diameter that you should be able to get more easily in the UK; BBS CH-R's or TSW Nurburgring's, although in 19" they are expensive!

Nice to see a GTI being modded there Gabouk, good work!

Though as above, the photos make the rear lights look a little too dark. Maybe a lighter smoke would look better? Maybe it looks different in the flesh as indoor lighting and photos can be misleading.

As for the wheels, RH-Alurad do an almost identical style which you can pick up for under £1k fully TUV approved and German made.
https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/alloy-wheels/rh-alurad/nbu-race-3968/?d=19

There are a few other makes that do wheels very very close to that design. I'll try and get time to do a bit of research later in the week if someone reminds me.

Looking good, if you look hard enough you can find pics of lowered gti's whith wheel spacers and your wheels , they really look classy and will be really flush too. It might be worth a look as it could save you some money and still have a really aggressive stance.

Just to give you some inspiration...

Lowered using Eibach Sportlines and sitting on 19x8.5 (ET46 or 48) BBS-SR.

Different wheels but similar colour to the VMRs you linked to.

Can't actually see what the photo is as it's blocked at work (but I cut and paste it from an old one I posted so think I know what it is) I'll check when I get home unless someone replies with a description of it lol.

Thanks "LEMSKI"  very nice of you to say, still got some work, but yea it looks cool

Thanks for the comment "SRGTD" , yea i was a little unsure when i was tinting the the rear lights, as i do agree with you, the detail in the lights do look good, but when the lights are on it all comes through perfect an i actually think it looks better, il deffo get some pics up with the lights on so you can see what its like  might change your mind

Iv already spoken to a dealer in the Germany who can supply them to me with free shipping, so cant complain there, all the offsets have been checked also with the supplier , so he's just waiting for my money
i deffo want the VMR wheels, il have a look at the wheels you mentioned though an see what there like

Thanks for the reply "EXONIAN"
yea as mentioned to SRGTD the tint is a bit dark, i dont think it makes a difference what angle you look at it in lol  i mean if it gets a bit to much after a while i can always take it off an fit the light smoke on, maybe the light smoke would of looked better, you could be right , but for now I think the car looks good, as said before il deffo get some pics up with the lights on, so you lot can see
an regarding the link to the RH wheels. yes they do look almost the sam, but with the VMR it has a small concave in the wheel, an it just looks a little better in my opinion  but thank you for showing me an alternative buddy

Yea "BUDDFRIDGE" i have seen a few pics with my wheels that have been lowered, an your deffo right, it still does look great, no denying that  but just really have an itch for them VMR wheels lol, an its something different from the rest i guess lol

"GNASHER" that car looks sick haha, not to much going on which is good, not like its been crashed in to halford lol  the wheels yea i do agree look really nice an yes it is a similar colour

thanks for the reply peeps, every ones comments are always welcome :)
will deffo get some pics up when i get the mirror caps installed

Hey dude JDM

if i can afford to get the rest of the exhaust system il get it , but for now just want this to make the rear of the car a bit better then stock, an yea i deffo agree with u there, they are a bit steep

an yea they do sound amazing, i had a full akra on my Motorbike an well that just sounded like the best thing iv ever heard, on full throttle just madness

but thats a bike, this is a car forum

step by step i guess, its not a rush so hopefully in time i can get it done
