Advice please. Currently looking for a 2014/15 GTi. Undecided if it's worth waiting for a car with nav.
Cheers, Nige

It not worth it if it has app connect, otherwise it is.

Worth it if you actually regularly use satnav IMHO. If you are only a casual navigation user, buy a phone holder and use your phone.
You won't get app connect on a 2014/2015 car as app connect only comes with the MIB2 units which are 2016 onwards...

How often are you likely to use Nav Nige?
I spent the thick end of £800 on nav for my GTI and used it a handful of times. Waste of money for me.
I bought my R with no nav and invested less than £20 in a Kenu Airframe as recommended to me by another Sussex member and manage ok using my phone. An added benefit of that is it's portable and can be used in any car you're using!
OR you can get a Garmin unit off eBay/a VW dealer that plugs into your Composition Media head unit and works like a factory specced nav (aside from lacking the directions being flashed up between the dials).
So if it were me I'd buy the best condition car I could get for my budget and add nav if need be.

Not really worth it IMO. As crazy as it sounds my favourite part of the nav option is the shark fin on the roof and I like having the MFD on the nav screen where it shows the compass / street name. I rarely use it for actually directing me somewhere.
No Golf before mid 2015 would have App connect.

I use my car for work and go to places I've never been all the time so nav is absolutely essential for me. If you don't really need it then don't hold out for it.

I don't like flying so travel around in Europe by car and always use Here maps on my phone. It's all off line when in use so no data issues, up dated via Google store and completely free. With the kenu air vent holder it's a good alternative. If you can do this you could save the money.
I have better screen res, same features and probably more updates than what VW offer. And it's position higher up on the dash, because you clip it to the vent. But it would be nice to not have to have a charging cable hanging underneath on long trips.

Any saving could come back to bite you at sale time, since built in Nav is becoming more the norm. I use mine all the time, even on trips I know, for the eta, much as anything. The VW system is not exactly cutting edge, but it's not bad. If you are looking 2014-15, then Nav becomes standard towards the end of your range. Personally, I'd hold out for Nav, but, as said, it's also down to how much you use it.
Another option is to get the VW aftermarket Nav, which I think is made by Kenwood, fitted by VW dealers.

Thanks everyone. TBH I don't use Nav much, & have got by with a Garmin. I may well look at the alternatives mentioned as suitable cars for sale in the South are pretty rare at the moment it seems!

As someone already said, no MK7 pre 2016 comes with App Connect/Apple Play. Also mk7 after 2016 comes with Nav as standard.

Heres a link to the unit myself and Roger mentioned which is an add on Kenwood/Garmin unit sold by VW dealers:

They seem to have gone up a bit in price since I last looked and that one seems to be about the cheapest dealer sold OEM one.
There other similar ones sold on eBay from different manufacturers but that's the one I'd go for personally if I was using Nav regularly.

App connect on my iPhone is way better than VW nav
