Title: Dodgy touchscreen
Post by: Caramba on 13 November 2016, 12:48
I have the standard screen in my brand-spanking new GTI.  BUT - there is a problem.  The bottom most row of the screen when it is a list eg phone numbers in contacts or menu setup items in navigation - doesn't work. I showed the salesman at the dealer.  We inspected two more cars in the show room.  Same problem!  He got a technician out who mumbled a bit a bout changing the screen, which seems a bit pointless since in most settings it works - must surely be a software issue.  Its a bit discouraging that the other showroom cars we looked at have the same problem, and nobody else has (yet) reported the issue.  In the meantime I can't dial the last entry in my phonebook, and have my satnav setup to think I am always towing a trailer......
Thanks
C

Both generation 1 and 2 media systems have issues. My unit Gen1 was replaced under warranty after becoming possessed. Frozen screens, automatic changing of radio stations, no sound on calls. It took a while to convince VW to replace the unit - 18 months later and no further problems. The dealer tried to placate me on a number of occasions. Same thing happened to my girlfriends gen2 unit and after 5 attempts they finally cured the problem. Now either that is coincidence or VW media systems are their weakest link.

Hope you get it resolved quickly.

There has been a recent software update for some MIB2 systems (not all).  Might be worth asking your dealer who will tell you if it applies to your particular car.

How do I discover what Generation my touchscreen system is?

Altho the car is just a few weeks old, I want to go thro everything well before the warrantee expires and knowing what gen. is installed might help should I have a problem.

Thanks in advance.

Yours will be a Gen 2 infotainment system Mike if your car is only a few weeks old.

Understanding is the Gen2 was introduced for the MY2016 cars or perhaps even MY2015 so your car will for sure have the latest version which is a significant improvement on gen 1 - the display is bigger 6.5 vs 5.8 inch, the resolution was improved and the route processing time is far quicker; it literally takes 25% of the time to calculate a route with the gen2 compared to gen1.
