Title: Blaupunkt DAB - Anyone got one?
Post by: Bazzer on 01 October 2005, 09:55
Hi all. I want a DAB radio now, cos the receptions cack from my Kenwood one. Basically if I have to take the radio out to check the connections again, I'm going to put a new one back in it's place!!
I've found a Blaupunkt Woodstock 52 for £150 with the aerial, but I think I want the Woodstock 54... Has anyone got one? What're they like and how is it in use?
My old man has a Woodstock 52 so I know that one is ok, but the buttons are all red and blue and my dash illumination is green, and I want a flasher one than he's got so the '54 will go green if I want!! LMAO is that the reason I want to get a new radio?!!!

Anyhoo, if anyone has something to add, lemme know....

Well it seems I'm the only person here to have a Blaupunkt DAB now then!  From eGay, Blaupunkt DAB54 £270 all in with an aerial. I got it yesterday, whangged in in the hole and have been grinning ever since! I've not put the DAB aerial in yet, so it's just using the FM and CD / Mp3 stuff. But oh my, what a delight!  There's a whole world of FM stations i picks up now and I just can't believe the difference in the sound quality from my trusty old Kenwood CD player. I might get round to the aerial tonight as it looks pretty straightforward. Shall I post the results or is it boring the pants off everyone?

Bazzer which car did it going in?
I'd like to hear of your results as i've got a JVC KD-AVX1 DVD player which has DAB control if I buy the optional DAB unit.
Would like to hear how easy it is to install the DAB aerial as well

Well it's all in and working fine. The aerial is a window mounted one and is not intrusive at all. DAB coverage is a bit squiffy when you go in a valley but the amount of stations and the quality of the sound is excellent!

The tuner is pretty cool too, I can get loads more stations on FM.

CD and MP3 functions are sweet, the staging is excellent! I could hear stuff I've never noticed before on CDs I've had for ages!

And lastly, the display is the best bit cos you can change the colour match anything!

Might post some pics of the install if anyone really cares, but really there's nothing special to see!!

Been considering going DAB and using a glass mount aerial rather than an external one. Do you regularly lose reception with it in town?

Well, not in the town where I live, but when I go to work the reception is marginal in Taunton. So I can't get a whole lot of DAB reception then. But the FM one is there too for backup. And it'll do MP3s from a CD or a MMC card, so tbh it doesn't bother me!

ah... I don't have an fm aerial, don't want to replace the one in the wing or go for a beesting. Trying to keep it smooth...

Guess there's always cd's!

I can't remember the last time i listened to the radio in my car...probably cos it dont pick any stations up due to the little aerial

who needs it anyway? like Dom said...there's always cd's!!
but i just copy them straight onto my headunit and don't bother with the cd's

DAB is pretty cool tbh - there's more stations than I know what to do with! And since it's mp3 quality you're pretty much sorted there too.... I think you'd have to suck it and see....

It's worth knowing that Blaupunkt do a '2 in one' aerial, roof mounted beesting type jobber that receives DAB and FM in one go. Bad news is it's £100...
