Title: Golf R in green
Post by: phope on 09 November 2016, 23:00
A different colour for a German market R

Thoughts?

It is the same colour as the hedge behind it. Who in their right mind wants a car that is invisable against a hedge?

I do not think they would sell many in that shade over here. The Germans have always had a thing for green Golfs.Usually in a much lighter shade (like Clio Alien Green).

I always liked the green ones best.

Too dark. Ideal would be a smidge bolder than Scirocco Viper green (which looks a bit washed out as it is IMO).

I like it but I wouldn't choose it. I did always prefer oak green mk2's to any other colour though and it's not a million miles from that.

Probably the same type of person who would buy one in a colour that blends in with the colour of road surface.

Only looks good on MG so not a fan on the Golf

(would say that as had British Racing Green MG Midget when 18, which when checked on the GOV.UK tracker was still running up to 3 years ago)

Green looks wrong to me.
I never got the whole oak green MK2 thing either.

Capri green was the best colour, oak green was nice but capri green was far better in my opinion

It's a strange one. I could never imagine choosing an Oak Green GTI back in the late 80's early 90's. Red was the predominant go faster colour, but now it somehow works. Maybe it was a colour ahead of it's time.

Clearly in a minority here, but I absolutely love that. Time to find someone to wrap mine

As we've said loads of times on here, VW sell Golfs in Germany in dozens of colours.

As opposed to the very muted selection of greys they sell here :(

My first car was a green Manta SRi, never a fan of green since then except for oak green Mk2

My first car (a 1996 VW Polo) was a similiar green. Never again!

It's a NO from me lol had the been the viper green yeah but a rolling privit hedge erm nope... even the viper green is a gamble when we bout the scirocco in 2010 I wanted to order in viper green but then common sense kicked in and thought about when the time comes to sell it you've less chance of selling unless you find someone else who loves the viper so I opted for my 1st colour choice Candy White lol

If I remember correctly VW opened paint options in 2011, simalr to the Audi personalisation scheme.
It's nice to have a choice!

When I was looking for a mk1 in 1990 Lhasa Green was the most sort after colour by a huge margin on it. So I can understand why the mk2 was popular new in green at that time.

The "problem" with the darker greens is that in most of the dull weather we get in the UK, the colour just seems too dark - needs sunshine to really come alive

That being said, I have a soft spot for green and would have loved an Oak Green Mk2

Plus, a lottery win would see me order a Porsche 911 in 'Paint to Sample' green like this...I'd give precisely zero sh!ts what anyone else would think

My second ever Golf was a 1983(1800) in Lhasa.I remember buying a touch up stick from Hawco in Elgin and it was the biggest mismatch ever!.Some plonker used to have one round those parts and he'd painted the alloys white.
I know the Campaign done a helios blue. But i swear i once saw a Mk1 Campaign in Monza Blue at the Renault dealer on the outskirts of Perth. It was pretty new at the time.Maybe my memory has clouded with the passing of time!.

I have strong dislike of anything green due to my football allegiances so its a definite no from me. A nice bright Orange would be nice though ;-)

Thats favouritism, all football teams deserve the same disrespect.
