As the clocks went back this morning, rather than lie in, I thought I would treat the GTi Discover nav system to the latest May 2016 update...... I should have stayed in bed!
I have done this once before with the Nov '15 update, it was straight forward, in a retro IT way.
I downloaded the individual files from the Navigation site linked by VW.
http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/Navteq-NavteqEurope-Site/-/-/-/View-Promo?&cwt=application/ApplicationFrame_campaign_light&Page=VW_Europe_Media_MIB1
I have then used their 7 zip to extract the files into a new folder.
I have then copied that file directly to the formatted VW SD card that came with the car and worked fine with the previous data file.
Now the fun begins, when I insert the SD card into slot 2 and start the Nav, I get the message on the screen.
"Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data."
IF ANYONE ELSE FINDS THIS PROBLEM.
*RESOLVED*
I USED WINZIP RAR INSTEAD OF THE RECOMMENDED 7ZIP AND THE DATA WAS SUCCESSFULLY EXTRACTED TO THE SD CARD IMMEDIATELY.

Did you try it in slot 1?

Yes same story in either slot...

When I download mine for the Tiguan I do the one file method instead of the 7 single ones. It takes longer to unzip and transfer than anything else. You might be better off waiting for the November update now as it should be available in the next week or so.
