Title: Six Hottest Golfs
Post by: mjh_056 on 14 October 2016, 13:31
feel free to take to reviews but thought might stimulate a little conversation

Bit of fun really but decent comparative test to

Like the way my GTD performed but also my upcoming R ( 2 weeks and counting, hence filling time as best as can!)

CSS v R was very interesting. The LSD really seems to work and makes me glad I have it on my GTI.

Yep nothing we all did not really know across the board, but nice to see it all played out in quite a playful way.

Might get the magazine too as it has a 40 year of Golf special and with some great images of them 40 years

Have entered the competition to :)

love it an answers the predictable golf R vs Clubsport S question yet raises new ones. Who wins out of base GTI & GTD. Who wins out of Golf R and Golf Clubsport standard. How does GTI performance pack compare to R & Clubsport. Lol video could be hours long.

Proves GTE ain't there quite yet though.

love it, answers the predictable golf R vs Clubsport S question...
... does it? How would the R have done on the same tyres?

How does the GTI performance pack compare to the Clubsport?... now that is an interesting question. Looking at the track times - I doubt there would be much in it. They have the same brakes and diff. The power difference may not make a significant difference on a track.

Sport Pilot Cup 2s make a difference in the dry having run them, absolutely useless in the wet and when its cold

Pretty sure the reason we get a poor tyre choice in the UK is due to CO2 emmissions

CSS has to be quicker and fair play for them making it but i'd be investing in some 18s for winter

What you want for daily duties and what you want for fun are two different things

It'll slightly depend on the track but the CS should still be significantly ahead of a PP due to slightly more track focussed chassis, a fair few more horses and just as importantly on a track the fact it can hold onto power higher in the Rev range.
There's not too many situations where you can really wring the neck out of every gear on the road but on a track that extra 1000rpm makes a difference. That's part of the reason the GTD lags a bit behind the GTI on track. The poor GTD runs out of puff too soon on track.
A really tight and twisty circuit would tighten up the times where the torque could belt you out of corners and the extra weight of the R would handicap it possibly more than its extra traction would compensate for.

As above though, a good fun little experiment and a good find mjh

Great vid to watch, thanks for posting, but I imagine until all cars are on the same tyre (any tyre) its hard to say you can draw any conclusions on the performance of the CSS.

A great Video and well done for posting ... No doubt, the clubsport S is way quicker than the paddle shift Golf R

A bit off the topic but might generate a few more comments - a comparison of Golf R and Seat Leon Cupra on Fifth Gear at Cadwell Park in the DRY only shows the Cupra coming out on top!!

Nice to get a comparison like this, I went for the R over the GTI for the 4 Motion, if I was in a dryer climate  the  Clubsport would have been on my drive!
Agree with the tyre comments, have them all on an equal footing, is still fancy the CSS to nail it.

It definitely would be more interesting to see the comparison done again with the same tyres on the Golf R and CSS.  The gap may be a little closer than it was on the video.  Also if the Golf R had the rear seats removed etc, so the cars were like for like it would make for an even more interesting comparison.  The Golf R is carrying around a lot more weight than the CSS and it's wheels are shod in inferior tyres.

Had a quick look in CAR mag assume it is the same article.  The red CS 3 door with Brescias I thought looks absolutely stunning..

does anyone know if it really has closed for ordering ?  My local dealer was going to give me a heads up before all slots have gone but don't know if they have cut ordering short now.. am still tempted.

Everyone is now realising just as orders close that the CS is a cracker lol
