Hi all,
My PP GTI is currently upgraded with a tuning box and even though I don't rag it everywhere, my clutch is starting to slip after about 16,000 miles (approx 5,000 tuned). It only slips at high load, low-mid revs situations and whilst I've got pretty good at driving round it, the more it happens, the more likely it is going to give up altogether (and probably ruin the flywheel at the same time). Tuning box is currently off and clutch has stopped slipping.
So what are my options for a replacement? Does the R clutch bolt straight in and would it be suitable/stronger than standard?
The only other alternative (after a cursory search) is the sachs performance clutch kit at £554 from Awesome GTI. Are there any other alternatives though?
Nothing too expensive, a recent house purchase has left me a little more short than usual lol.

The R clutches are also well documented for slipping once modified. I'll assume it's the same friction plates and flywheel on both models and possibly why the R only puts out fractionally more torque than a GTI.
Have a look over on vwroc.com under the tuning section as there are a few threads detailing clutch upgrades owing to the sheer amount of tuned R's about with slipping clutches! :grin:

Ta mate - kind of wish I'd gone for a DSG now but I much prefer a manual (but not with a chocolate clutch)

DSG for commuters and racers but a manual is still more fun for the fun stuff! The CSS is manual only for example so manuals still can't be *that* archaic. Enjoy it while you still can, there are some things a DSG still can't do. Horses for courses.
However DSG's can at least be mapped to cope with the torque a bit better but you won't want to be paying for repairs if it does go bang.
The manual R has a riveted steel cage over the ECU to prevent tampering but the DSG R's don't. That tells you quite a lot.

Was thinking the same recently, although I'm on 44k with about 30k APR stage 1.
Definitely has a little slip to it, was gonna ask Awesome GTI or another specialist when it's gets too annoying.

I might pop the box back on it later and see how it goes - I was on a long drive which (whilst being spirited) wasn't being hard on the clutch. It might just have been getting a bit hot in there.
Apparently (from searching further) there is an upgrade using OEM TTRS/RS3 parts which might be worth looking at.

Ah, good idea. The place that did my remap can handle that :smiley:
