Hi Guys
Car is in need of new suspension/rear bushing replacement
I use the car daily and not sure what to do. I have been doing lots of reading on the forum and there are so many opinions on spring/damper vs coilover ect..
I need the car to stay comfortable not wanting to go down the silly low route like I did on the mk3 golf
happy to keep OEM hight or drop 30mm
question is what is a good setup for use every day ????
have seen lots of people use the bilstein b4 shocks with lower springs has anyone used this setup if so whats it like ???
have also seen a few unbranded kits on ebay that look good value see link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Gas-Pressure-Ser-Shock-Absorber-Strut-Bear-Dust-Cover-VW-GOLF-4-BORA-AUDI-A3/281476366467?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D38661%26meid%3D49956315a26745dc8e7e6d5e2f841e3f%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D330775316192 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Gas-Pressure-Ser-Shock-Absorber-Strut-Bear-Dust-Cover-VW-GOLF-4-BORA-AUDI-A3/281476366467?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D38661%26meid%3D49956315a26745dc8e7e6d5e2f841e3f%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D330775316192)
any thoughts ?? and yes i know you get what you pay for!!
Just looking for something better than the knocking/banging poor ride i'm getting at the moment due to f**d suspension/bushings
any help advice would be great

I had Bilstein B4's and Eibach 30mm springs
Ride was 'ok'. It definitely sharpened up the handling but at the expense of overall ride comfort
The biggest problem with selecting a suspension setup is what is comfortable for one person is a bone shaking knuckle ride for another
I preferred the ride on standard shocks with the Eibach springs

thanks for the reply the ride at the moment feels like my old gold mk3 gti on 80/60 springs and shocks with 205/40/17 but with out the good bits ie ride is S**t and it handles like a boat only have to drive over a bottle top and it feels like i have just broken something! now i know this is due to bushings ect.. as well as suspension and i will be doing bushings at same time as replacing suspension
any thoughts to the link Rhys
if not any idea on best price/place to get standard shocks and Eibach 30mm springs
just trying to compile a list of everything i need to buy ie
all top mounts, bump stops, dust covers ect..
many thanks for the help

I'd try and stick with a recognised manufacturer
I had the following fitted to my MK4
Standard top mounts
Audi TT wishbone bushes
R32 dog bone mount
Standard rear beam bushes (did buy the Fabia ones but never fitted them!)
Bilstein B4
Eibach 30mm springs
Whiteline rear anti-roll bar
The mounts and bushes I bought from VW
Shocks from Euro's during a sale
The springs 2nd hand
For me the biggest improvement were the TT bushes, dog bone mount and the rear anti-roll bar :afro:
Things have moved on mind and I owned a MK4 back in 2010

so after much research turns out the 130 has sports suspension from factory
Had a chat with both Bilstein and Eibach and they both say this
so I have gone and got Bilstein B4 shocks and Eibach 30mm springs that are correct for the cars axle weight
The guys at Eibach say i should only see about a 10mm drop but see a big improvement in ride
Fingers crossed they are correct
Now thinking while i'm at it should i replace anything else
the list so far
Bilstein b4 shocks
Eibach 30mm springs
New bump stops and dust covers front and rear
New rear beam bushings
Would it be worth changing the front lower arms and arb links ?? have seen a full kit with bushings already fitted
Any thoughts ???

If its worn might aswell replace while its apart. My mk2 (obv different setup) is lowered on cpilovers with polybushes and its actually a softer ride than mu mates mk2 on springs.and dampers. Bit its also not silly low as ive been there done that and dont want to brake cars every week anymore
