Title: Discover Media/Pro media search
Post by: scanesare on 16 September 2016, 17:20
(Almost) filled an 128gb SD card with music (that's more than 20,000 files) only to realize there isn't a direct media search function?? I hope I'm just wrong because that seems as a pretty big fault in terms of media system design.

I've got the music organised in folders etc. but at such volumes it's not always easy to remember where you've got what. I also don't have the Discover Pro user's manual yet (awaiting dealer's order for an English version) so I can't be sure.

So please tell me it is possible to search by artist/track name...?

Sorry can't answer your question re media search. However, for the manual you can put your chassis or reg number into the VW website under the owners section to access the relevant manuals for your car.

Thanks but as I found out this function only works on UK cars, something to do with destination country code.

Yes, you can do this.

You press the little musical note icon top left and it will come up with a list of searchable fields (artist, album etc) as well as the "folder view" which is how you see it by default.

When you insert the card it indexes the content into a DB that it uses for this.

BTW If you don't eject the card cleanly using the menu option or simply just at random, the DB can become corrupt and you are either missing new stuff you've just added or tracks are duplicated and they appear twice in the folder. Happened to me half a dozen times over almost 3 years now.

If you get this, go into the menu/settings (far right option) and do a reset on the audio - you can choose which things to reset so you don't loose your radio stations etc. Once reset the device restarts, re-indexes and all is good :)

I would be integrated if you can access all the music on the card. I cannot ever seem to get all the music to display. I think the database had a fixed length.

Possibly,  seem to remember it does say 64gb maximum.  Maybe that isn't a reflection of the ability to read,  but a limit on the number of files it can index.

Oh yes it worked. Although it takes a few buttons presses to get there as you have to switch from the Folder view to tracks, then search, then finally enter the characters but if you can't remember where you have that specific song it does the job. Thumbs up.

I've only copied 20gb so far and it seems everything is there. Can't speak for more.
