Just changed over to a new GTD after 3 happy years with a GTI (change in work miles not a change of heart!)
I noticed last night that when I put the headlights on they dont do the up/down & side to side leveling checks as the GTI did.
Am I missing something or is something not right?

Did the lights come on straight away?
They might have done the dance before the lights came on.
I've found with my wifes 16 GTI, the sensor takes a second or 2 to switch on the headlights so the dance has already taken place whereas with my 14 GTD, the lights come on straight away so I get to see the dance every time.

I will have to get the Mrs to switch them on tonight while I have a look, normally start car then switch to auto and as the car is in a closed garaged they come on, always saw the GTI do the leveling but not this one.

They'll be doing it on start up before you've had the chance to switch them to auto. Nothing to worry about!

I just leave my light switch on auto.... you don't need to turn it off, this is the 21st century :)

Is it in Eco ?? This may be why.

Panic over, as suggested the checks are done before I even turn the lights on, left in auto I now see the movement on the garage wall as the car is started

This may be to do with the latest (MIB2?) software updates as ever since mine got its updates last week but one, it has been doing the same behaviour as your wife's GTI, where as previously the lights came on immediately and I could see the dance, but now it takes a few seconds for them to come on and I don't see it anymore. Maybe it's a safety thing so that when its doing the checks it doesn't blind anyone?

Forget what I said there. Seems to be back to normal now. No idea why
