Title: Postcode settings in sat nav
Post by: Jas on 15 September 2016, 17:20
Picked up my new car on the 1st of september, my first vw so still finding my feet regarding the controls and features etc. When i go to put a new destination in the nav there is no settings for postcodes, after checking the manual it shows a setting for postcodes which isn't showing on my touchscreen, in the manual it shows 'location' but on my screen is just 'town/city' which won't allow a postcode entry. My question is, is it just the discover pro nav with a postcode setting, or have i been given an inferior disc or am i just missing something?
Thanks in advance

I have Pro Nav but assume it's the same?

Tap to enter a new destination, the on next screen tap City (2nd row down) which takes you to another screen - in the bottom left corner you should see Postcd - tap that and box for postcode entry comes up.

My wife phoned me the other day after not being able to find it

I wonder if that along with the dipped reverse mirror is the most common thing for customers to go back to the dealer with on a new car?

As Booth says its in the city / town setting bottom left.

Sunvisor perhaps?

My wifes GTI had a terrible rattle that I was convinced was behind the dash until I was told on here to try folding the visor down and see if that helps and it cured it

I'll try that on the way to work in the morning, but as you i am convinced its the passenger door trim, it's much louder than the drivers side, if i bang across the trim on the drivers side it goes but always comes back

Mine went in a few weeks ago for that. The black plastic trim needed some packing behind it and inside the door, our VW production line friends had forgotten to put some anti-rattle tape on the bars that go from the door release handle to the locking mechanism. It's loads better, but not perfect. And I rarely have the radio on so it can be annoying, especially with the windows shut.

To be honest it came as a surprise as i assumed golfs were built well, i didn't even bother test driving the car so it was an unwelcome surprise on the way home. I suppose i can live with the drivers side as i can bang it now and again but the passenger side is bad and in my opinion unacceptable, ill see what they say when i take it back which is a challenge in itself as i work away.
Talking of windows do yours go all the way down? The other day i thought ill put the window down rather than closed with the air con on but in the down position the top of the glass protrudes by a couple of cm so its uncomfortable to put your arm on top of the door  :embarrassed: little things i know but annoying all the same

Both took me a while to figure out. Also how to get the front wipers into service position.

I know it's all in the manual but who actually bothers with them?

Great.  The sun visor rattle Stevie (p3asa) mentions is well known issue, often sounds like it's coming from elsewhere.  Iirc the issue is the vanity light itself.  Test it by holding the visor up against the roof and if it stops then that's what it is.  There is a VW dealer fix for it I believe due to it being such a common issue.

The window should fully open! Definitely a trip back to the dealer is in order, main VW dealer?

With you saying that ive just gone out to have another go, bare with me on this guys i know im a complete newbie with the golf and i appreciate your help.
If i put either front window down using the one touch method both front windows were still protruding by a couple of cm, with you saying they should go all the way down i pushed the electric window button down again and nothing, after another 2 presses they both went all the way down so again using the one touch method i closed both front windows and lowered them again, this time they went all the way in so no glass was protruding but i could see the top of the glass sat so again after another two presses the glass disappears, this happens every time now which is better than the glass protruding but it still takes 2 further presses to have the glass completely disappear.

Have VW finally sorted postcode crap?

Don't mean that you first need to push 'town' or after changing to postcode that it defaults to numbers even though UK postcodes always start with letters?

The thing with postcode is that it's not intuitive, in that you do not have to set a city. Just go new destination, then country, and postcode is in the bottom left. First part of a postcode defines the city. 🤓

If you start from scratch ie choose country again after choosing Great Britain a little box with pstcde appears in the left corner !
