So that time of year has come around again.... And Elephant have very kindly decided to slap an extra £220 per year onto my insurance, anyone have any recommendations for insurance companies before I try out Compare The Market?
-
Aviva were cheapest for me.

Depends on so many factors, especially location - Esure are generally cheaper than the other big firms in the North East, Direct Line aren't competitive at all up here, but cheapest for me at my Dads address in Southampton. Go on a few comparison sites for a better idea and try the brokers if you have mods.

Direct Line were good for me. Also found when I did a comparison site that prices seemed about £100 more this year.

Yeah I know the insurance tax went up from 6% to 10% (Sneakily!), but even still, my GTI is a year older, and I've got an additional year NCB, surprised it went up that much. Axa are coming up cheapest for me, by some way!

+1 for Direct line.
Have been ultra competitive with Vans and cars for me.

This year mine went up from £458.64 to £506.00 with Quote Me Happy. I shopped around too and couldn't get a cheaper quote anywhere. That's with 2 named drivers and full NCD but I do live in a not so good post code area in a crime ridden city

I'm with VW insurance direct line where marginally cheaper but not much.

Did mine with Aviva, cheapest quote and £60 cashback on Quidco. Been with Directline for last 2 yrs and they up'd the renewal by £80 more than last year!

I just had a similar thing with elephant renewal price a few weeks back, I went online as a new customer on their own website, changed my birthday by one day, all other details the same, £160 cheaper than renewal quote, gave them a call with the quote details and they matched it with no issues :-)

I came from a gt86 and on the gt86 owners forum Chris Knott insurance promise to beat ant price, still with them for the golf too, it's worth a phone call.

Aviva and Direct Line have been my last two providers and they've been massively cheaper than anybody else and their customer service has always seemed good. Both offer cashback through the likes of Quidco too.
The comparison sites don't seem great value anymore as they must be raking in the commission in order to afford their massive marketing budgets (though a lot of the comparison sites only show deals from their related companies under the same umbrella and they don't compare the whole market).
