Hi all, Has anyone else had lower back pain from seating in the GTI seats for about an hour of driving? I seem to have had it twice now
-
Have you adjusted the lumbar support?
-
No, never. Not the best seats I've had, but not the worst, by far.
Have you got the lumbar support pad thing adjusted out? Other than that, it's down to finding the best seat position and seat back angle. Worth spending some time just trying different arrangements, until you find one that is most relaxed.
Could also be that you're a bit tensed up, driving a new and special car.

I used to have back pain - I have osteoarthritis - and have found using a CG Lock to hold me in place makes a huge difference.
In my last car I had a MED design 'Backfriend' which also helped a lot.
But as above do try the lumbar adjustment and also make sure you have the seat and wheel adjusted properly as they will cause no end of problems if not set correctly for you, remember the seat goes up and down as well as back and forward as does the wheel.
-
Yeah something not right. I've found it the most comfortable car I've driven in years actually.
Have a fiddle with the setup, especially the lumbar support and try adjusting the steering wheel distance to get your arms and legs in the right place - you might be over reaching or something.
Are you especially tall or have short legs?

My wife had prolapsed disc from accident many years ago and the Audi seats used to set her twinges off quite readily, however the last 3 years with the GTD she has not complained once and in fact after we have been walking the return to the GTD and the heated seats is seen as a form of therapy.
Another reason we stayed with the MK 7 that forgot to mention, as she made it pretty clear in the Audi garages that the Golf was her preferred car.
Drove to Lake District recently on a near 5 hour journey and got out as fresh as could expect outside of a true luxury cruiser.
Not sure if the DCC aids this? as obviously you get no crashes or anything like that which would jar the back
But one of things which is a plus, well supported with no sideways movement, comfortable and with the heat added, even therapeutic :)
Think all the elements are there for the comfort, so its getting the seat set up correct for posture maybe?

Yes I have had back pain from these seats, I also have a disc problem but when I did adjust the lumber support it was better, its not the best driving seat I came from a gt86 and that seat was fantastic at supporting the lower back but now I am use to it I can manage ok.

Back pain as sure you know is complex, as what may trigger one person, may not for another depending on so many variables of the location of the injury and how relates to posture when sitting.
So it will be sometimes the perfect seat for some, but actually aggravating for another - basically for the more complex of back conditions it does go beyond standard seat design

When I first got mine I adjusted the lumbar giving maximum support and was getting achy on long journeys. Took it down to it's midpoint and still some issues so now it's fully off and my back has been fine since.
-
A lumbar support is almost guaranteed to f%#k your back up if adjusted anywhere near fully out.
I find my GTI seats to be very comfortable apart from the side bolsters digging into my enormous lats........

I can't get comfy in the electric leather seats in my Tiguan to the point I'm getting rid and looking for another golf again. I do have major lower back issues but no matter what I change I still can't get comfy. Totally spoils the driving experience.

Was in St.Albans last weekend and they had a R Line Tiguan and aesthetically much nicer to the previous model (they had a previous R Line in there to compare)
As it was on my final list had a good look over and sit etc to see if maybe missed a trick by selecting the R and must admit it never left me feeling that missed out on anything and the CSG GTI in there definitely caught my eye more,
Even the virtual display does nothing for me, want to be wowed by it, but sit in front of screens all day and role involves plenty of UI interaction, and basically you just see so much similar graphics in day to day that really do still prefer dials, though do see screens as standard fit in 5 years after they have recovered some money through cost option.
The Tiguan is a lovely car, they have definitely improved its looks markedly but no regrets looking beyond now seen in flesh
With regards seats, what is comfortable for one, maybe awful for another person, and thats a tough one to get over if the latter, and it might seem to some a small thing to change car for, but definitely understand myself why would.

I actually prefer the overall look of my version of tiguan to be honest and the new one is way way too expensive. I thought these were supposed to be cheaper to make on the mqb chassis!

I had a bit of pain the first couple of days until I fiddled with the seating position (mainly lumbar support) and then not had any ever since.
My Mrs complained a bit when she had her first journey in the car that the seats were uncomfortable, but I put this down to that I had bought the car and lets say she wasn't entirely happy about it! However, I did check the seat later on and realised that as I'd never sat in the passenger seat, it had not been set in a very good position - it came out of the dealers with the back of the seat at about a 70 degree angle on both seats!
Not had a complaint since from either of us though
