Title: Hi all .1.8 agn with issues

Bought this for partner.its got problems .it's non turbo .hoses are soft and been bodged .even the inlet hose is covered in black tape.dipstick tube disintegeated when i went to check level.I know nothing about golf gti .will have to learn quick.any help is appreciated with code numbers, spares,what to watch for and also the gears are hard to get into first.cheers steve

Welcome, gears id suspect is selector cables.
If you get someone to go for 1St and look down at the selector tower youll see if thats at fault or cables.

Thanks for the help.will be under it soon enough once I have had a move about with the other cars.I don't really know anything about these cars yet but I soon will lol.thanks again .how do I find out codes for parts
