Hi all, what is every ones favourite driving mode on the GTI any you dislike and for what reason.
looking for all positive and negatives please if you can.
Thanks
-
Eco just makes the accelerate feel really laggy, no MPG difference on my GTD.
Normal is as described, just normal. Sound Aktuator is off.
Sport is my favourite. Fast throttle response and I'm one of the few who doesn't mind the sound Aktuator.
Individual is just a setting in which you can edit settings, for instance have engine in sport but ACC in Eco.
-
My gti pp is always in sport mode, I actually thought the throttle response was lacking even in sport but a pedal box has fixed that.
-
Eco is rubbish. I will use normal on the motorway when just a peaceful cruise is required. Don't use sport anymore as I don't like the heavier steering so mostly use individual with everything set as in sport except for the steering.
-
I run mine in individual pretty much all the time. All settings to normal apart from DCC and soundaktor in comfort.
-
Sport mode most of the time as my daily commute is on B roads. No soundaktor for me, my Remus exhaust gives all the sound I need. Normal mode on motorway cruise. Never used Eco as I haven't noticed any difference compared to Normal mode.
-
Use Normal most of the time. Sport when my wife is not in the car. Used ECO once when my speed limiter (wife) was also in the car and though I had got caught by a speed camera while overtaking on dual carriageway but luckily had not. ECO too laggy on reponse which is why I use Normal mainly.
-
Never use Eco. Its laggy and doesn't actually save any fuel as far as i am concerned (and I do like a bit of fuel saving!)
Normal mode most of the time, sport sometimes.
Use individual with DCC on sport when fully loaded with car and roofbox - car is too wallowy otherwise.
-
Messed with settings on my leon fr never noticed any difference apart from the colour change on the doors, gtd is left in sport mode all the time.
-
Generally leave mine in Comfort mode for inner-city and motorway driving, Sport mode for everything else.
I tried Eco mode on a long motorway run and compared it to the same journey in Comfort mode and I actually got better MPG on Comfort - plus in Comfort I didn't feel like I was driving a 1.2 litre car pulling a trailer! Eco mode just seems a complete waste on a GTI and it's something just to tick a box to show VW are trying to help cut feel consumption etc. You can still be efficient with the fuel in the other modes if you drive sensibly and that's what you're trying to achieve, whilst still having a car that responds.
-
Sport mode for me all the time. Normal has too vague steering. Eco - are you having a laugh?!!!
-
I no longer have a golf but drive a Q5 with the drive select options. In real terms the efficiency setting saves me 5mpg over the dynamic setting. I assume this is mostly due to a different driving style in Eco mode as its noticably slower and changes gear at1400rpm, where as dynamic mode just encourages me to drive quicker!!
-
I should have stated that I have a manual gearbox - quite possibly "eco" makes a difference for DSG.
Oh and I do use comfort too - whenever I face a speedbumped hell or I drive into a county with no budget for pothole repair. Makes a big difference!
-
Always use Individual mode with everything in normal except steering and lights that are in Sport mode and the LSD is on permanently.
Eco is terrible and the tiny amount you may save on fuel it outweighed by the pads you will be replacing due to the extra braking you need to do for any downhill.
Normal is too bland for me and the steering way to twitchy.
Sport is just embarrassing for normal town driving as you sound like a pensioner over revving it too much, especially with a non stock exhaust.
-
Sport all the way for me too, especially with the Sport & Sound pack fitted!
-
Individual with the following:
- Engine - Sport - prefer this throttle map
- ACC - Eco - not sure if a placebo effect but feel it does give a few extra mpg over normal as it tends to back off a car in front a little earlier rather than braking too hard and then accelerating back up to speed again.
- Everything else - Normal - engine sound in normal nicely cleans up the small amount of diesel clatter that you can very occasionally hear, but is not so loud that it sounds fake (unlike sport)
Mines a standard GTD manual
-
On my previous mk7 GTD (2013), i would agree with you all the Eco mode really strangled the performance and was a bloody nuisance (for the tiny bit of extra mpg it gave you -if any).
However on my 2016 GTD the maps seemed to have really changed. Eco is now really driveable and very similar in nature and performance to "Normal" mode, albeit with the great coasting feature (mine is a DSG), and it's now good for a real 3-4mpg improvement on a proper journey. I now use this quite often when just motorway cruising.
-
Drive around in Comfort for the day to day and move the DSG to sport for roundabouts, junctions.
Select ECO on long motorway runs as find it does save a little and makes zero difference to the cruise, and if do need to really move around in traffic then you move the DSG again. But purely for Motorways as too much lag for any other condition.
Sport is for roads that know give me a little more licence to push on.

I thought sport didn't do anything to the throttle on the GTD, or am I missing something?

Yes, it changes the throttle mapping (like a pedal box)

Well if it does it's hardly noticeable..
I keep mine in Normal on motorway/around town, sport everywhere else.

You don't notice the difference in throttle response? Really?
Is yours manual or DSG?

I found when I had mine in normal the first few months that after a certain point a lot of the power came at once, whereas in sport, it's a much more progressive power delivery. Difficult to explain I guess but if it was represented on a graph I feel like it would be an upward curve for normal and more of a straight line for sport if that makes any sense.
-
So I guess from your description you mean normal would be more response at the top end as you press the pedal further down while Sport would be a more linear throttle response than normal with more noticeable response from earlier on when pressing down on the pedal.

Exactly
