One of the things that has disappointed me in lead up to the arrival of my GTI PP is not being able to FULLY switch off ESC, with my current car the GTI is replacing (MK3 Focus ST)you can switch off completely which I do automatically before going anywhere.
Just having a read on the MK7 Forum seems someone has unlocked on VAGCOM

Anyone local to Essex with VAGCOM & could do mine when it arrives?
TIA

Just out of curiosity, why do you switch it off all the time, do you drive on track, or at 9/10th's everywhere?
I know you come from Essex but that takes the...

I have a control issue
I dont like not having full control.
I come from a racing background & my other car is a S1 Elise that has NO driver AIDs so I really like the idea of me driving not the car telling me what I can or can't do

If you never see the orange light come on then you've never done anything so bad that it had to help you....
Personally, I've always been relieved when I see the "narrowly escaped death" message come up.
Possibly the only thing you might find annoys you is the forward assist - that is a bit trigger happy but maybe one day that too will save my butt.

You can change the coding so you can switch it off completely, however this will only last for that session (or as soon as you turn front assist or cruise control back on).
I changed coding on mine so I can have Sport ESP that you do get on GTI/GTD models and this does leave you pretty fully in control, to the point where your average driver would struggle to hold it. It does allow you to have quite some fun though :D
Never needed full ESP OFF.
