Title: About to order GTi Clubsport
Post by: savage16v on 30 August 2016, 14:15
Hi all,

Thought i would join up as i am about to order a Clubsport

Spec we are going with it:

Solid white with black roof
Bucket seats
19" Brescia wheels

Currently have a Golf R on lease, and fancy something different once it goes back.
Tried all the hot hatches and none of them have made us want to buy it, then spotted the CS and really like it.

I will be keeping an eye on peoples posts as and when they arrive, will also be looking to retro fit the armrest and rear heaters.

Got a few goodies on the R which i can swap across on to the CS when the time comes as well. :)

Have had a couple of GTi's over the years, a nice MK1 and a couple of nice MK2's, plus a MK2 Rallye.
Very excited to get my hands on a CS :)

Congrats on your choice of car.

Can't wait to see some pics, and will be good to hear your views on the 2 cars.

On my second day with the car and having ordered one without actually seeing it in the flesh or sitting in it ever before, I can honestly say that the cabin feeling is beyond any expectations... The alcantara bits, the steering wheel *oh-my-god-that-wheel* the buckets and all the bespoke details of the interior just set it apart from any other competitor in that price range and much higher I dare say. The only place I'd imagine that gives an equivalent sense of premium sportiness (no cheapo aftermarket interior mods) is probably a GT3. But the Clubsport has just the perfect blend of a sports special AND a lux cruiser at the same time it's amazing.

I was after a car that would make me drive the nuts of it the moment I saw it and right now I don't think it can get much better than this...

Great review  Scanesare and good choice savage. Can't wait to get mine either. I think it will be a special car as it is a real limited edition with some very special features. THe pics on the Internet of the seats look amazing.

I managed 3.9% back in April when I put my order in. I still don't have any confirmed build date yet

Have you posted any pics yet of your car ?  I have asked my local dealer to let me know when their customer car first arrives so I can have a butchers.  I think the CS is one of those cars that is hard to judge until you see it in the flesh...

Yep 7% back on launch day, played hard though.

My dealer has had one in, first one I believe, not mine sadly, mines still in the delayed issue.

I was 5th to bag one on launch day though.

I've had an email from the dealer to say the build week is now provisionally week 42 (mid October) and this is called status 10. It needs to go to status 20 which is a confirmed build slot and this hasn't happened yet. It looks like the production problems at VW are now impacting on build times. So from ordering the car in April for an early Oct delivery it could possibly be late November or even in the new year! I know I've signed a contract but surely VW can't have an open ended delivery time?

Cheers for the pics, looks great.  Those seats look fantastic.

Saw your comments about the interior, genuinely does it have a special feel to it that lifts it above the Gti / R ?

My dealer emailed me last night and have their first car coming in October.  He said it isn't sold so they might run it as a demo so might well get a chance to drive one before thinking if it is worth ordering.  Price point still puts me off a bit but it depends how "special" it feels at the end of the day..

It honestly is at a different level from either a GTI or an R, or an S3, or a M135i or basically anything else in that price range and above. Wait till you get your hands on the steering wheel, it's a shock... Especially with the buckets, the whole cabin emits a sensation of sitting in a true sports special that I personally have not come across in any other "reasonably priced sports car". Pics can't do it enough justice. It feels very special and unique and that's something you appreciate every time you just sit in the car or drive stuck in traffic. You don't have to push it (which again offers a whole different type of pleasure) to feel good with it. You can merely sit in and enjoy all the special bits that come with it.

I think it's great that you have a chance to see it/drive it yourself as when I saw the car in the flesh and picked it up, every area (driving/interior/overall feel) surpassed any expectations I had prior ordering.

So you have the bucket seats? Do you have the issue of the seats making that noise as discussed on some other forums?

Well still not ordered......

Got a good price from a VW dealer, and spoke with them on the phone, all sounded good, price confirmed.
Later in the day i emailed the guy and (this is Wednesday) and i am still waiting to hear back.

In the meantime my local dealer is trying to see if they can match the price.....

Scanesare. Those pictures look great. I think it's the same as the one I have ordered. Csg 5 door with black roof?

I have seen other reviews where they have talked about the special feeling red the interior. I really think this is one car which sets itself apart from the rest. And we the buckets I think even in years to come this will be a highly desirable car.

Almost same, no black roof on mine. The interior really has a very special and very unique feeling that I think will remain the a highlight for a long time.

Was just thinking the same about the steering wheel.  It looks great in the photos.  But after time I suspect you will get dark patches where the skin and oils from your hands have rubbed off on the wheel. Better take up using driving gloves if you have the alcantara wheel to keep it looking new.

Haven't done any long journey so far (>1h) but they are very comfortable indeed, you never feel you are being squeezed in them or sitting in an unusual position.

Dave

Not so sure about this now, according to my local dealer, because they  haven't pre sold as many as thought, he thought production would actually run into 2017.. but not sure how accurate that is.

I am hoping that if I get to drive their October car and like it, there will be some price movement and would be happy to consider taking their last build slot even if its well into next year..

Would depend on getting the price down to £2*,*** not £3*,***  though really.  That said my ideal spec is white, 3 door manual, only a couple of options - bucket seats, pan roof for the contrast and maybe the 19inch wheels as I am not over keen on the look of the std ones, even if they are lightweight.

You should do Trev, for example everyone who ordered a new Tiguan earlier in the year now gets the £1000 deposit contribution. Which wasn't available earlier in the year.
