Title: Tyres with rim protection
Post by: mwad gti on 20 August 2016, 13:46
Hi

I need to replace a pair of tyres as the current Bridgestone Potenzas (OEM) are finished.

In all honesty, I wanted to move away from the Bridgestonesmand look at getting Goodyear Eagle f1 as they always get good reviews.

But....... O they have any form of rim protection? The Bridgestones do overlap the rim offering some (minimal) protection and I'm not sure the Goodyears do at all. I don't want the rims to protrude the tyre edge if that makes sense.

Please advise, or even better post a pic of your tyres/rim

Thanks
Mark

I've had a quick look on Camskill and Black Circles. I had 18" wheels on my GTD, and I think the tyre size for the 18" wheels on my Golf was 225x40 18R with a Y speed rating (can't remember the load index!).

Both Camskill and Black Circles have Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's in the above size with rim protection - on Camskill, it's shown as 'FP'; flange protection. I had the previous version, the Asymmetric 2's on my GTD and they were good. I preferred them to the Conti Sport Contacts that I've got on my Polo GTI, which are quite noisy - even from new.

I think Goodyear may make 2 versions; one with and one without rim protection, so if you want the ones with rim protection, be sure to check this is what you'll be getting from wherever you buy them from.
