Hi guys
I just had the check oil or low oil sign come on-the 1st time in 4 years and 21k miles.
Sod's law the car is due a service in a month so I'm reluctant to put any oil in it when it will be emptied very soon anyway. Obviously if it is low I'll have to top up.
So 2 questions. What oil is needed (2012 GTi) and would I be right in thinking that the oil level warning comes on when oil is very low or just when it needs a litre or so?
Thanks

Sorry, forgot to ask what grade of oil should be used.
Is it possible the check oil light is on because it is due a change? Just a thought

When it's due its oil change it will say service due in so many miles and so many days, your best off topping it up, i check my oil level each week, it only takes a second with loss of oil pressure and you've got a big bill, i keep mine on the maximum, reducing the risk of oil surge and oil starvation.
5w30 use good stuff (castrol, shell).
Give your car all the maintenance it needs, all the maintenance it wants and a little bit more to keep it happy.

Thanks The Ant
I had just over 1/4 litre of Mobil 1 so put that in (5w30). Oil light now out so hopefully will be ok for a few weeks
