Any recommendations of upgrades to front bulbs? looking mainly at getting rid of the orange colour (seen cheap chrome ones but are they any good?) and maybe getting a brighter glow on dipped and full beam
-
Philips and Osram both have whiter high performance bulbs (nightbreaker and extreme vision) that will work better than Halfords 'cheap' own brand, give them a try. A bit of forewarning; they will not last as long as standard ones as they glow hotter to emit higher light colour.

Nightbreakers for the win. After my a4 had them fitted was better than the previous hid
-
what about the front indicator bulbs? can these be swapped out for something not amber, as I think that looks odd
-
Not legally...

You must mean something along the lines of the Silvertech chrome bulbs that flash amber, they work well, had mine for a few years now.

Thanks, so next question, will the ones linked fit?

Are thr pins on your bulb offset? Im sure they are.
Only takes a few minutes to whip one out and check
-
front indicator bulbs are offset, rears are inline. Not quite sure why VW did this but it's probably got something to do with the fronts needing to be amber and the rears clear...
