Title: Noisy folding mirrors
Post by: phope on 04 August 2016, 21:52
The folding mirrors have become a little noisy when unfolding - more of a squeaky noise of plastic rubbing against rubber seals, particularly on the passenger side

I've tried silicone lube spray on them, which helped for a few days, but it comes back

Best solution to fix the squeak properly?

Mine does this too. Not tried anything yet, so also interested in successful treatments!

I just sprayed a small amount of silicone spray on them to stop them. Make sure you wipe any residue off after so that grit doesn't get stuck onto it.

I put some of this Krytox on them when I was doing my seals recently, it works but its rather extravagant

Mine sometimes make a fairly loud creaking sound when unfolding, haven't given it much thought before now.  Wouldn't this be lubricated by the dealer during service?  I don't know what kind of seal is in there, but my guess would be two o rings.  The creaking sound is likely to be the two main plasic parts moving against each other which wouldn't affect the seal so annoying but not a cause for concern.

I find this happens in summer, maybe something to do with higher temps and the rubber seals.  Never hear the noise in winter so pretty soon we'll be good for another 6 months.

I've ordered some Wurth 'Gummi Pflege' rubber protection, and will see if it helps at all

If nothing else, the stuff is top notch for keeping rubber seals supple - it's much like that VW branded stuff above.
