Title: Great start
Post by: Marjon99utd on 31 July 2016, 19:56
New to the forum

Just bought a 2012 gti last saturday 23rd july, what a great car and love it but somebody decided to crash into the side of my car early hours of saturday morning.

They hit my neighbours wing mirror off, broke my wing mirror, dinted the wheel arch and scratched it from the wheel arch to the back of the front door (passenger side). Only had the car 6 days

Im so gutted

Costing me £200 for wing mirror and £300 for bodywork

Just a question though after my rant

How Are the auto mirrors suppose to unfold?

I fold them in with the button at 10 oclock and unfold them when turning it to the heater and the both open straight away, i didnt realised this was the mirror heaters. Do they open from folded when you move the button to 0 and is this straight away?

Im only asking because since the garage have removed my wing mirror the drivers side mirror isnt working the same, i guess its link?
its taking 10 seconds to unfold when turning the button to the heater setting and the same from folded to 0

Sorry for the long post and if it doesnt make sense?

Rotten luck there - I'm sure all will be fine again when fixed. Regarding the folding mirrors, both of mine unfold immediately when moved from the 10 o'c position to any other position.

I know the feeling, There must be someone preying on freshly bought mk6s, similar thing happened to me after only six weeks, new wing and paint cost me 700 quid.

Yeah hope so they did open when turned from 10 to 2 (heater) straight away. Guessing it might all be linked

Ive got it on cctv from so guy down the street but not great quality, the guy over the road has 3 cameras but on holiday till saturday so hoping i can get reg number then....

Just want to get my wing mirror fixed now and can live with the bodywork being damaged for a couple of weeks until it goes into the body shop

I just paid for it, I had no idea who had done it and even if I did it would have cost me more in insurance, in the long run

That's really tough luck.

Hopefully, that's your run of bad luck over with now, and you can start enjoying your car.
