Hi all
Damn you electric Windows!
My drivers side window has finally packed in after months of intermittently working. The relay 'clicks' when you operate the switch but nothing moves.
I have used all of the old threads on here and stripped out the door trim. I believe it's a wiring fault at the harness inside the door. The brown earth wire is very distorted and twisted so I'm looking at replacing it. Two questions....
Is there an easy way of confirming it is this wire with a multimeter?
How do you remove the electrical pins from the large round connector that screws into the side of the A pillar from the door? I need to replace the full length of the earth wire as it looks bad right down to this connector.

I suspect it would be easier to replace the whole loom.Are you sure the motor itself has'nt jammed or the cable snapped ?.

most likely it is broken wires under the rubber bellows at the door hinge look there before even taking the door card off

Thanks guys, I'll investigate further. I kind of assumed it was the wiring under the rubber bellows purely by how knackered they look but it could be the motor. Is there an easy way of testing it with it in situ?

That happened to me to, it turned that the plug (inside the door) wasn't connecting properly, it's a sliding one, I removed the sliding mechanism (casing) from the plug, re-plugged it and taped it and it works perfect. No cost.

I've finally had a free hour to investigate further today. Tested all the door harness and all is good. Played around with that sliding plug but no luck, given the motor a bang, still no luck so I guess it's down to the motor or regulator.
So, next problem. If the window is stuck up, how the hell do I remove the regulator? I can't get to the bolts to remove the glass! Any ideas on how I can tell which fault it is likely to be? I don't really understand how the regulator operates but one cable is under tension and the other is slack. Is this correct?

Remove the door mirror bracket on the inside. Then remove the main door handle. Unscrew the door lock tab. Remove the door card, pop it off and you will see four bolts under the plastic door seal. These are either 12 or 13mm from memory. If you have a friend it is handy for them to hold the glass. If you have no one use some close pegs to jam the glass in place. Then you will have access to the two bolts that hold the glass. Remove these as these hold in the two main bars of your regulator mechanism. Once the bolts are out you can move the bars so that the window will drop down.Loosen the bolts, and if you want you can tilt the glass and remove it. Plug in your new regulator and make sure it works before you fit it.
Put in the new regulator and bolt it in. Using the switch, drop the regulator to the bottom so you can see the two bolts that hold the glass. Put the glass back in, drop it in to the rubber hosings. Move the glass up and down so it fits correctly and then tighten the securing bolts. Then put it all back as above only in reverse. Just take your time. Should not take you more than an hour or two tops. I've done it so many times i can do it in twenty minutes including taking the door card on and off.
