Title: Performance monitors
Post by: Damion on 24 July 2016, 21:05
Just picked this up from another forum:
Well its the thread you guys have all been waiting for.

I stumbled across this post on another forum so I hope it is helpful to those who want this function.

Let me first dispel some rumors.

NO you can't do this yourself, you will need to take your car into a dealership to do this. Anybody who says they can do it and its not a dealership is lying.
NO you can't use RossTech/Vagcom/VCDS to enable this.
NO it is not a coding change.
NO it is no an adaptation change.

How the new MIB system works is every NAV radio is capable if every function they just need to be "unlocked".

For example, a 2016 Golf with Nav, but does not have Bluetooth is capable of it, it just needs a special key to activate it. This is the case of the performance monitors. To enable them, your dealership needs to open a Helpline ticket and get a FES code to release the function.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT. You need to use a factory scan tool.

This code is not something I can provide as each code is unique and is one time use.

*DISCLAIMER*
Each dealership is different, some may tell you to go pack cheese because it is not worth their time. Others will be more then willing to help.

It's a shame they are not there as standard. I would have liked the boost gauge but not enough to try and convince the dealer to get a code.

Yeah. It seems that random USA GTi's are coming with it.

Hmm random I was rather hoping to have them in my car after coming from the Focus ST that has them mounted on the dash.

Just another tacky gimmick that nobody needs to sell cars to the younger buyers. Probably as accurate as a chimp with a calculator.

Pleasantly surprised to find this on my car. Didn't think UK cars got this?

All the MIB2 units got it from week 22 this year.

I may have to use it when my wife is not in the car as she claims the dials & numbers constantly moving makes her feel car sick.  Alcantara and sick do not mix well, so I will reserve them for solo trips only.

Furthermore (for those that were doubting their accuracy) the boost gauge reads directly from the charge air pressure sensor. Reading it via OBD shows the exact same values, same update rate etc
