Hi all.
I noticed recently that my 2.0L GTI MK4 seems to have a strong smell of fuel coming from the exhaust. Smoke out the back is slightly black aswell.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this?
Thanks in advance.

Lambda sensor reading wrong normally puts engine light on though

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking sensor. No engine light though, I did a high rev yesterday blew abit of black soot out the exhaust.

Id try lambda definately

mine did this , changed the lambda and all was well ...

faults in memory?
measuring blocks look ok?
would look at both before throwing money at lambda...

scan it with VAGCOM and it will also tell you which lambda (front or back) back doesn't really do much except protect the standard cat from damage, front one compensates for fueling etc
