Has anyone got a MY2017 though yet with the new rear view mirror? Any chance of some photos if you have please?
I'm wondering if it's worth retrofitting it to my car.

A pic of it in the first post of this link (sorry, from another forum)

I actually prefer the framed version.

I think you might be right but I really don't like the green light for the auto dim so I don't bother having it on. I might get the sharpie marker on it and block it out before I look to replace with the new mirror.

I prefer the smaller and curvier auto-dimming rear view mirror that the A1 has (when you option it) that is also in the Scirocco and Audi TT. The MK7 Golf mirror looks massive in comparison.

Looks to me like the 2017 MY mirror has a green light, anyway.

Hi. The 2017 mirror does not have a green light or on off switch

OK. Guess that makes sense. Just leave mine working, as intended, all the time, so the light might as well not be there. Come to think of it, it's bothering me now! 😖

First thoughts are not sure, think its one of those things you only know how really feel about when its there in front of you, literally
Boost Gauges? Nice to show someone, once! But doubt something ever use in reality.
The positives for me for the 2017 changes was the free Sat Nav aside from that its all move on ..

Yup we've got the smaller oval shape mirror in the wife's scirocco it does suit the cars interior 1st thing I noticed when looking in the mk7 was the mirror but be just a throwback to the early gti's like the golf ball gear knob lol

My wife's 2014 A3 has a tiny oval shaped rear view mirror and it's not fit for purpose.
The one in my GTI is superb and I would hate it to be any smaller.

The loaner A3 I had last year whilst waiting for the R, had one of these, it was awful. Much prefer the bigger Golf one and happy to have the framed (now) older style one too.

I'm not allowed to criticize it to my good wife but it is truly sh!te!!
While we're at it, the tiny door mirrors are garbage as well

The TT I had before my GTD had a very small interior mirror, so that might be an Audi thing. The door mirrors on that car, though, were huge and, because of the shape of the cabin and the low seat position etc. very close to the driver, so the view through them was awesome. Form over function works sometimes, but often fails badly!

Yeah the smaller oval mirror in the wife's scirocco does suit the car not so sure if it would suit the mk7.
I'm the gti's it's more of a kick back to the earlier gti's with the golf ball gear knob and plaid seat covers I think the framed mirror suits it

The 2 Sciroccos I had and the wife's A1 have the small oval mirror, but the whole of the rear window can be seen though it at once, can't ask any more than that of the rear view mirror. The Golf's is bigger than it needs to be - dont need to see the periphery of the rear trim and rear door interior sides. Perhaps it's a seat position thing, the closer you sit to the dash (and mirror) the less you see through it? My seat is a notch from fully back and it's lowest position in the Golf and fully back/down in the A1.

The small mirror has the effect of making the car interior feel cramped, at least thats how my wife's A3 feels to me.

Gee u must be a tall bloke monkey lol I'm 6ft 4" and the seat position on my golf is 6 notches in from back and lowest position same as wife's scirocco wen I drive that lol any further back feels like ur on a deck chair hahaha

Nope, a smidge under 6 foot, maybe my preferred driving position has a straighter leg than most? My backrest is pretty upright in my preferred driving position.
Anyway, I checked out my "further back from the mirror" theory and it didn't increase my field of view in the mirror, I saw more the closer I got to it, but maybe with an upright backrest my head isn't that far away from the mirror. Of course the Audi A1, TT and VW Scirocco have smaller rear windows than the Golf (and curved edges rather than square) - perhaps that's why the Golf gets the big squared mirror and the aforementioned cars get the smaller rounder one?

I have a MY17 car and think the new mirror is absolutely fit for purpose, and looks rather smart.
Quite amused we are on the second page of this thread discussing the merits of a rear view mirror
