Title: Which Trolley Jack Would You Recommend?
Post by: Brenbo on 14 July 2016, 08:49
I am currently awaiting the arrival of my new Golf R in a few weeks time.  I have specified Pretoria wheels on my Golf R.  Due to this I feel I may have to take extra care of the wheels than I already do.  I do not have a trolley jack at present so taking the wheels is a bit of a bind.  I am thinking of buying a trolley jack to make removal of the wheels much easier.  Which Trolley Jack would you guys recommend for me to purchase so removal of the wheels is much easier and quicker to boot?

No particular brand to recommend but ensure it has a rubber pad on the top of the lift to minimise damage to the underside of the car.

I bought a Clarke CTJ2250LP in February. Only used it once so far when I took the wheels off to clean and apply C5 wheel armour, but seems quite good. Better than the cheap one I had for my last car. It was in the top few of an auto express group test as well.

I bought this after a recommendation from a member on here

It works a treat and isn't a daft price.

These get a decent review and are from Costco so no hassle if there are any problems.

After lots of reading reviews and weighing up pros & cons between each jack put forward, I have finally took the plunge and bought the Arcan trolley jack as shown above.  I was tempted for a time by a Draper low profile trolley jack but it was a good £30+ more than the Arcan without a rubber pad on the saddle.

Many thanks guy for all your swift suggestions.  Now roll on delivery of my car, so I can use the jack as intended.

I bought the Halfords own brand 2 tonne low level jack a few years ago whilst it was on promo, sure I paid something ridiculous like £30 with two axle stands too.

With me only using it once every 4-6 months to rotate or clean the wheels its plenty adequate for my needs and not had a problem with it.

I noticed on the auto express review of trolley jacks it was a Halfords trolley jack at No2 as the second best jack reviewed. Infact it could be the one you bought?

Had arcan jacks for 5 years.  Very happy with them and no grief.  Clarke ones were sh!t,  the alloy ones anyway,  always popping g seals and bolts coming loose. Keep an eye in the rubber handle stops wearing out.

Just got my Arcan trolley jack, it was a lot larger and heavier than I expected.  Nearly had a hernia carrying the thing down stairs from where the delivery guy dropped the parcel off.    It definitely looks like it's capable of lifting the car with confidence.

That's why I didn't get the Arcan one.
I lifted it up in Costco, and considering it's supposed to be partly aluminium, it was stupidly heavy.
I've also got an SGS bottle jack that's fits in the palm of my hand and can lift 2 tonne.

I've got the standard Hlafords trolley jack and it's not a bad bit of kit (especially considering the price).

Got a hockey puck for the top but since lowering the car, the front jacking point is very slightly too low. I now need to drive the front wheel onto a block of wood to get the jack under lol.

I wouldn't mind but it's only on Eibach springs!
