Hi there.. My windows are squeeking BADLY..ive tried silicone spray but that doesnt do anything? Coukd it be the regulators? Or isit something else?
Thanks
-
When regulators failed on my mk4 they didn't make any squeak but I could tell the regulators had an issue as window was shaking when going up
Do Windows go up and down smoothly or does glass move side to side (if that makes sense)?
-
If you think that the noise is coming from the guides/channels, one of the silliest sounding solutions is talcum powder...use a decent pressure air nozzle to clean the channels, then a liberal dosing of baby powder.
The excess can be blown away with the nozzle....and your car will smell quite nice!!
Sounds dumb...but it works.
Tip....give the edges of the glass a real good clean beforehand...and only apply the talcum when everything is completely dry.
-
Both windows go up and down smoothly..its both my front windows when going down and up..sounds like seagulls singing and really annoying
-
Sounds like seagulls singing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIX1-XOtEVs mine is EXACTLY like this
i hope its not the regulators..thats going to be an expensive job wont it ?

My car was in for a service at the local dealership yesterday & oddly enough I have a similar problem with my driver side window making a squeaking noise but only when going up. I asked them to take a look at it as they had the car all day anyway as I'd be at work. When I got the car back, they told me it's due to the rubber seal perishing & nothing to do with the regulator, it would be £98 to supply & fit.
It's nowhere near as bad as the video linked, my understanding that is if the window is getting stuck or becomes slow, that will be your regulator.
-
That's where the talcum powder comes in.
-
Sod's law my passenger window has started doing the same but only when window is going up.
The car has only just hit 20k miles so not really a happy bunny

Where exactly do you put the powder bro? ill give it a try...

Its defo the rubber seals then..do you have the part number?...i thought it would be the seals cos when i listem carefully it sounds like the bottom of the rubbers making the noise ..ITS REALLY ANNOYING I WANT IT SORTED ASAP!

Apply the talc fairly generously to the vertical section of the channels with glass all the way down...apply another dose with it half way up and go from there. You will need to cycle the window up and down a few times to get a good coverage, add more talc as required.
I would do it with the door fully open... saves a mess inside the cabin.
-
Surely using talc will cause other problems? I can't imagine a ton of talc in the mechanism etc is a good idea
-
If you used a ton of talc, you probably would cause a problem, but we're talking less than a teaspoon full or less.
I've used this method many times on many types of vehicles, including my Golf...never been an issue, only results!

I can't say for 100% it's the same for you, but that's what they told me with the squeaking noise coming from my driver side window. Sadly no part number as I didn't ask for it. I'm booking it in for a DSG oil change & the seals to be changed next week all being well, happy to get the part number for you if you want it.

I'm not saying that anyone is right or wrong when it comes to a problem...what I'm suggesting is a possible solution.
I've been there before and may get there again with a similar problem...I prefer to try the easy (cheap) fix before I go for a super expensive (98 quid is a months salary for me) solution from a dealer.
Anyway, this has worked very well for me over the last 55 or so years....what you choose to do, is up to you.

On it mate, I might pop down there today to book the car in so I'll let you know.
-
Just to refresh the thread....a mate dropped in today, on his way back from NI (voting business)...he mentioned that his A6 was driving him crazy with squeeky front windows...2 minutes and 5 or 6 puffs with the baby powder cured the problem!
-
I need to try this. Could any of you please explain exactly where I need to put the talc - I don't understand exactly where I need to place it. I would rather get it in the right place rather than need to add more and more.
Thanks

Just give a few puffs, or squirts of powder into the glass channel when the window is fully down...bring the window up to about halfway and repeat...the idea is to lubricate with talc powder, all of the channel. You might have to do it more than once...but it will work!
Let me be a smart arse for a moment...in your country, salt is used in the roads during winter, so salty spray on your windscreens and side windows is a common thing. That's why rust, among other problems are something you have learned to live with...how much salt collects on wipers, in window channels, on your vehicles undercarriage, buggers your paintwork etc? This crap (salt) is acidic, abrasive and just plain nasty...the faster you drive, the more of this rubbish gets forced into places it shouldn't be....when the weather warms up and the salt crystals form again...that's where your noise is coming from.
Thank God, salt is banned on Bulgarian roads...coarse river sand does a much better job!!

i tried using baby powder on the window channels i got a brush and brushed the powder in the channels and littel on the top window channels..window is still squeaking..maybe im doing it wrong? what i really want to do is take the door apart and clean the channels and rubbers properly and then see what happens
-
That would be a good place to start...you'll be surprised at the crud that builds up in them.
