Title: 17704 Error Code
Post by: RC81 on 12 June 2016, 11:08
Hi, I thought i'd connect VAGCOM to my 2001 Golf 1.8T (AUM) due to the temp gauge hovering between 70 -90 degree's during normal driving conditions.

So VAGCOM produced this code

17704 - Error in Mapped Cooling System (check Temp-Sensor and Thermostat)
            P1296 - 35-10 -  - Intermittent

I also looked through the mk4 maintenance + info section and found a thread which covered similar codes but not this particular one.  The car also starts, boosts and goes as usual with no issues.
Just takes a while to get warm in the mornings.

So would I need a new temp sender or thermostat?

cheers guy's

Thanks guy's, you've probably confirmed my thought on that one.
I've just ordered an Elring rocker cover gasket set first. Present one is allowing oil to leak
