Not had car long .. before i picked her up owners said it hadnt started .. aa said it was distributer cap and or rotor arm?  Brand new ones put on.  Ive had it for 2 days then this morning drove to shop and when i tried to start her ... nothing.  Son jumped it and it started .. drove home tried again later and same problem.  Alternater or battery?  Dont know car well enough yet so clutching at straws .. any comments .. play nice .. would be appreciated .. ty

Is it a 8v gti. I seemto remeber they have a relay that likes.to cause problems. Ecu relay I think. Makes them have intermittent starting issues and such.

No its not the gti ... one day ... cl .. someone said something about a switch .. is it a complete alt change or can you just do switch  .. as you can see im no mechanic and apologise for the questions but need to learn

If it was alternator or battery likely hood of it restarting are slim after being run down.

I think the relay is across the board with mk3s

relays are a good start, cheap and easy to replace. fuel pump and ecu relays are known to be problematic, 30 and 167 if memory serves
