Title: Plastic side skirts - take apart
Post by: GeoBog on 30 May 2016, 18:44
Does anybody have a clue how to take apart the black plastic trim under the sills? Hope it's the correct name for the part (picture below)

If you look at the second photo in this advertisment (https://www.kunzmann.de/shop/en/exterieur-original-volkswagen-golf-7-vw-side-skirts-set-gti-gtd.htm), you will see that the plastic skirt has slots which must fit over screws fixed into the sill. If that's right, then the plastic skirt would be released by sliding it until the screw heads line up with the wider part of the slots. Don't know which way, though!

Thanks for the link, I have made an idea of how it fits. I have tried to slide the skirt both forward and backward but it won't budge. I believe the skirt is made out of 2 separate parts: an inner part which fits onto the screws as you said and the outer part which clips onto the inner part.

Out of curiosity Geobog why are you wanting to remove them?

My dealer damaged one of mine and is refusing all responsibility. Its not that noticeable but noticeable to me so its something I might try and change in the future so I am interested if you manage to remove yours.
