I have noticed on here and online that some GTI cars come with Red badges and others with silver, Can anyone confirm the reason for the reason please?
Thanks
-
Originally all GTI's came with silver badges but then sometime in 2014 I think?? VW decided that the Performance Pack spec'd cars would have the red badges, so that's the difference.
-
Ah right Thanks for that. so its only the cars with Performance pack that have Red badges from 2014 on. I just seen a pic of a 16 plate GTI with silver badges which would indicate no performance pack then.

Would be careful with that assumption, badges are easily changed so always check the provenance properly of car buying ..

Front brakes are the easiest way to tell if it's a PP or not. They are a lot bigger than the standard ones. They can be changed though so checking the option for putting the diff in sport is present is the only real way other than checking with VW.

My gti pp Aug 15 model has red grill & silver rear badge which VW have confiied to me is the official designation on both gti & gti PP from may15 prior to that PP models had red badges !

Rear brakes are another way of telling the PP from standard GTI. PP rear brakes are ventilated and a bit bigger than the non-ventilated brakes on standard GTI. It's quite easy to check this by looking at the rotors if they are double or single.

All that red badges front and rear confirm is that it has red badges front and rear
Not being a smart arse or anything but quite a few folk on here without PP have swapped their badges to red.
And I could be wrong but I think I have read on here that someone with PP changed their rear red badge back to silver as it clashed with the red paint.

Silver is very regal - some might say like the Crown Jewels of a Golf GTI.
-
My Gti did was built with the silver badging front and rear as already mentioned in thread this is the norm for non PP GTI's although I personally wanted red to contrast the carbon grey so my dealer offered to swap them before I collected my car..
Personal preference only but I do like them  but I'm bias lol

Thanks all some very valid points there and worth double checking not just going on the badge.
-
Those centre red VW badges look good I like them, How does the GTI compare to the Scirocco? any regrets in changing? anything you miss etc?

Ok, to edit my last post, all original pp gti's have red badges

Does it go any faster now you have the red badges
On a more serious note you talk about the red contrast against the grey. I personally like contrast that's why I went for white . Never thought I would buy a white car but it's the contrast against the black trim and red calliper badges etc that sets the car off. Hardest choice choosing a colour. I do like the carbon grey and red to.

@ gtiaps Red on Carbon looks really good! What VW emblems have you used. Are they replacements or vinyl stickers?
Thinking more red on Tungsten might be good.

Hi Talk- Torque
Thanks for the comments...The Vw's are replacement emblems cost was about 45 quid ish may seem alot to some but better than a decal that could come off I think
-
Each to their own but I'm not a fan of the red VW emblem.
It cheapens it somehow but I'm sure it looks much better in the flesh.
-
Agreed with the VW badge itself - cheap looking.
-
Yeah as iv said before personal preference but seeing as I'd replaced the silver Gti badges with the red Gti's the silver Vw badges looked lost and out of place..
If we all had cars the same what's the point in forums like these as said each to their own lol
