**Warning – Image heavy
Well had a marathon weekend. Collected the wife and my new cars on Saturday and spent the rest of the weekend and most of Monday detailing them.
We asked the dealer not to touch them aside from removing the transportation sheets, which to be fair they did. The paint work was a rough as sandpaper on both cars, so I was really glad it was me that was touching the paintwork first.
The process was the same on both cars, so:
• Power wash
• Snow foam with AF foam
• Rinse
• Hand wash (two buckets) with Megs Shampoo and my Wo-Wo lamb’s wool mit.
• Rinse
• De-Tar with AS Tardis
• Rinse
• Sprayed with Iron-X to remove bonded fall out (from the wheels there were loads).
• Rinse
• Clay using Megs last touch as a lubricant
• Rinse and quick wash again, with a final rinse.
• Car then dried with my two extra-large microfiber drying towels (patted dry)
• Used my Metro Sidekick to blast off the remaining water in the harder to reach areas.
• The above left the paint work super smooth.
• Cars then taped up and machine corrected with Dodo Juice Lime prime on an Orange Dodo Juice Fin Cut pad. This got 99% of the minor marring out.
• Then 2 coats of Gtechniq C2 V3 and 2 final top coats of Dodo Juice Purple Haze pro.
• Wheels taken off and sealed with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour
• Windows gone with Autoglym Fast Glass, and black trim dressed with Aerospace 303 protectant.
• Tyres dressed with Mega tyre gel.
Phew, now the afters…….

Both cars look superb.....BUT I'm totally in love with your GTD, the colour combo with the wheels and red calipers look bloody awesome
-
Both look amazing sootchucker. Does the GTD get the red badges as standard now with the sport and sound pack?
-
Thanks guys.
Kyle, unfortunately no, I'd pre ordered the badge skins vinyl graphics again well in advance of the car arriving. Just think the red looks really good against the dark paintwork.
-
They look fantastic Sootchucker.
Having owned a Carbon Grey mk6 GTD and now a Blue Silk Polo GTI, I have to say you've got great taste in your colour choices!
-
Excellent work!
-
Very, very nice, love the Santiago's and Carbon!
-
Both look amazing Sootchucker. Really excellent work.
You must have one of the smartest driveway in town.

Yeah I like it too. Looks OEM, especially with the red calipers.

Bought my wife the same polo but 5 door, look amazing when clean. Looks like you got the exhaust tips fitted as well
-
Amazing work, I was exhausted just reading your post so I can only imagine how you felt when you'd finished!!
-
Stunning work - both look fantastic!

@ Sootchucker
Out of interest, why did you clay before the de-iron and de-tar stages? Better to do it the other way round, as then the majority of the embedded contaminants will be first removed by the iron and tar removers, which are almost 'touchless' processes, leaving much less contaminant for the aggressive clay stage to remove. Thus less clay marring to be corrected by DA afterwards. Not a criticism, just an observation and wondered if there was a reason you did it the other way round.

I thought that too. I would have de-ironed and tarred before the hand wash stage.

Rebecca, I actually did it as you said (i.e. clay was the last task) - just wrote it up incorrectly. Was exhausted when I did the write up (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it !)

I do it after the snow foam and 2BW. After just snow foaming and pressure wash rinse there can still be a fair bit of grime on the car which could get rubbed in when agitating the tar and iron remover. Less risk of that if car is properly clean.

Lol.
It's hard enough doing all that detailing (especially on 2 cars!) then having to write it up and sort photos too. That bit takes nearly as long as the detail.

Cars look superb. The sound with the sport & sound pack is very addictive.
Are the mats in your GTD dealer supplied?

No mate. Got the ones that came with the car in the boot (still in their wrappers). These come from Carmats2u (as recommended by Booth11 - Rebecca). Superb quality and pretty much customizable to how you want them.
Thanks all for the complements.
