Title: Rough estimate from build week to delivery?
Post by: saltire on 16 May 2016, 12:48
Hi folks - so after getting landed with some unexpected (and pretty hefty) bills on our mk6 (09 model so guess it's getting to the point where wear and tear is really taking it's toll), we decided what the hell and ordered a new GTI.  For the first time for us we took the PCP route as what with the discounts around and VW contribution it was a bit of a no-brainer really.  We went for 5 door, manual, Carbon Grey (just love this colour), PP, DCC and 90% tint.  No idea if we really needed the PP and car isn't likely to see a track either but I liked the idea of the lsd and larger brakes (plus think the red badging on CG looks ace lol).  DCC plus Austins as roads out our way are pretty poor so keen to see if DCC makes a difference to ride or not, plus it's another toy to play with and (personal preference) but we'd rather have both of them than leather anyway.

Anyhoo, got notified that build week is 30 May so just wondering roughly how long other folks have had to wait until you get your sweaty mitts on your cars?  Promised myself I wouldn't get too impatient but it's not working!

Generally about 4 weeks from start of build to delivery to dealer, but it can be less. Then they have to PDI it before you can collect.

Stages are as follows:

1: processing order - as it sounds.

2: with the factory - parts are being ordered and are awaiting supply dates

3: BW confirmed - all parts are at factory and they've confirmed a date for build.

4: Build in progress - as it sounds, although very often skipped on the tracker as actual build is only a couple of days. States is takes 4 weeks from start of build to delivery.

5a: in transit:left the factory - on it's way to Emden.

5b: in transit:shipping - at Emden waiting a boat. Normally received 48 hours after 5a.

5c: in transit:nearly here - on boat to either Grimsby, Tyne or Sheerness depending on dealer location.  At this stage VW can give you the name of the boat, but it sometimes skips this stage.  Now states 10 days to dealer.

6. Arrived in the UK - as stated, takes up to 10 days apparently, although they try and do it within 7.

7. At dealer - just needs PDI and valet and is ready for you.

Lol.

Copied and pasted from another source originally. You know it would have killed me to write the words "valeted by the dealer".

Still not everyone is quite so OCD or picky!

Yeah I hear you.  Read through your very informative first detailing post Booth11 (think it was that 1) - damn your R looks good - after coming across a few posts about poor dealer prep.  I'll be kidding myself if I said I was going to do this myself, but it got me thinking so I'm definitely going to question the dealer about it.  If nothing else it might stop them taking a brush to it!
