Title: Scratch on the dash.....
Post by: m19ads on 13 May 2016, 21:47
So I collected my gti on Wednesday. Love the car more than I ever thought possible it really is amazing. Today however was the first time my wife and I both went in the car together. Whilst in the passenger seat she noticed a long scratch on the dash going from the windscreen back towards the passenger seat. I assume the pdi test driver put the trade plate in the front and it slid out when they drove away.

Has anyone had any issues like this and managed to get rid of the mark? Have e mailed a photo to the dealer tonight so will see what they say but at the moment I can't see a fox. Feeling a little gutted right now 👎

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/meguiars-plastrx/prod_283.html  will take scratches out of plastic.

Thanks for the reply I don't want to risk any products until dealer looks at it. I'm not sure if that will work given its not hard plastic on the dash it's more of a leather feel.

So soon after your car being picked up the dealer has to do something about it.  When I picked up my GTI almost 3 years ago now the plastic between the centre air vents was fitted incorrectly as a plastic bit for a LHD car not a RHD car.  In all the excitement of picking up the car I didn't cotton on to it until halfway home from the dealership.  My dealer changed it immediately.

I know a scratch will be harder to prove but the size, direction and position should be enough to get them to fix the issue if possible at their cost, as it is on the dash coming back from the windscreen.

If it is too bad to repair would this mean leaving the car at dealer to get a new dash?

I would be nervous about the possibility of rattles following a dealer installed dash.

+1. I'd live with a scratch on the dash all day long before letting a dealer near it. Interior trim removal / fitting is not something dealers do very well in my experience.

I am definitely expecting the dealer to sort this issue I was just wondering if people had ideas in the meantime so I can offer some options if they don't know!!  ITs going back tomorrow to be discussed.  With regards replacement dash that's a big no no for me.  Definitely not accepting that as an option, I would rather use my 30 days hand keys back option!

Well if it's across the top of the dash and it can't be fixed, then the only option is a dash out job. Not what you want to be doing. But I've seen stuff online before, trim repair experts, for example years ago people used to drill the dashboard to fit clunky handsfree kits and I've seen those drill holes repaired... So what you're looking for really is someone in your area who specializes in trim / plastic / upholstery repair / retrimming.

I will be if the dealer can sort without removing the dash, was just hoping there was going to be a nice easy solution!
