Sounds like it's lacking in fuel, possibly the pump, pump relay, or injectors. Seems like it's not holding fuel pressure?
-
Hi toMahawK3 that's what we thought cause it's been sitting for 11months maybe the injectors have got clogged , but also I found out that the fuel gauge isn't working don't no if this would affect it in any way , but I might just buy a pump relay and see what happens

Unplug the maf see if it makes a difference. Am not that upto date with abf engines. They have a idle control switch on the throttle body, might all need fine tuning as its been sat. Throttle butterfly could be getting cought on corrosion in the throttl body not letting it tick over without revs
-
Ok mate thanks I'll try that and see the outcome , :)
-
Tried unplugging the Maf still nothing , I'm really confused , when I'm trying to start the engine it won't fire up on its own , but as soon as I tap the throttle it starts
-
And also does anyone no if the mk3 gti 2.0 16v abf has a idle control screw , thanks
-
No, the idle is controlled by the ecu and the ISV. The ISV may be gunked up - it's located underneath the HT lead holder (3 small bolts to remove this) then check wiring to ISV and if all ok, remove ISV (one small bolt and pull out of the inlet manifold). Spray carb cleaner in it and give it a wipe out.
Has it got fresh fuel in it?

Also clean out the throttle body and check the vac lines, particularly the one from the inlet manifold to the ECU

Ok Simeon I'll have to have a look I had the isv off yesterday but didn't no how to clean it haha , I haven't emptied the tank and put clean full in , I'd just tried adding fuel and a fuel additive to try make it better , and I wanted to clean the throttle body out but I heard of you take it off you have to have it realigned when you put it back on is this true :)

No, the throttle is simply hooked up to the throttle cable and all the adjustment is in that.
