Title: mk2 8v PB digi cutting out at speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: ritmo on 08 May 2016, 16:38
Hi
the car has had this problem for some time now and I'm now thinking its not worth keeping!!!!
I love driving this car but this problem is driving me nuts!!!

It happens at any speed can be slowing down or under load.
parts I have changed so far are:-

ignition switch
fuel pump relay
lift pump
full distributer including new cap and rotor arm
HT leads
coil
knock sensor
blue temp sensor

getting crazy now!
anyone any ideas what this could be??

I dont have an imobiliser on the car and the main fuel pump primes as it should!
thanks

does it re-start straight after? can you hear if the fuel pump shuts down when the car cuts out?

Have you checked all the vacuum pipes and hoses for leaks. Mine went through a phase of just cutting-out. It would fail to start afterwards or run really lumpy. You may have cracked flexi hoses which aren't air tight and need replacing. I could be wrong, but its cheap to fix. Good luck.

Sounds like you've covered the obvious culprits...

The intermittent nature would suggest electrical rather than fuel

ECU, main fuel pump?

I had that problem. Changed the fuel pump, fuel relay, distributor...

Turned out to be the hose coming from the breather mushroom. Nearly every 'weird' problem with the mk2 has been down to a hose. At 26 years old that rubber is quite stale and brittle.

Guys
thanks
for your replies
I have checked all the hoses and vacuum pipes/wiring and are all ok

I don't want to speak to soon but I think I have got to the bottom of it, changed out the Ignition module with sits on top of the ECU and its been fine since

now I have another problem my wipers are not switching off!!!!! you got to love MK2's!!
will let you know if things change
thanks again
