Title: New to owning a mk4 GTI

Hello... just bought my first mk4 GTI... and loving it, however I'm having issues with the alarm! both the horns work as a friend who's a mechanic tested them. But I can't seem to set it off. The red light on the door pin is flashing, to my knowledge the button on the driver door pillar hasn't been pressed (this button isn't illuminated when lights on) but still no alarm?! fuses all good...

Any other tests I can do.
