Ive got the faut code 01044 on my code reader 281 dedicated to bag on the abs of my mk3 gti 1995 buid. Any ideas.

Don't really know, seems they did do software updates on it. You could get one of ebay and try it. Don't think it'll cost much.

German? I'd say that's Dutch!
Incorrect coding seems strange on a 90s Golf..... I would have that checked out with a proper VW specific tool, not a handheld.
Get someone with VCDS to look at it.

I can't make a note of the original code because I don't what's been done to the car while I was in hospital.
All I know is it was OK before. How do I find what to code it to.?

did you clear the code? Does it come back right away or only after you drive the car?
Remember that damp anywhere can cause the light to go on...on my B4 passat it was water in the boot near the central locking that caused it to go on...cleaned up the water and that was that....
They are old cars and sometimes the fault codes go off for reasons other than what they show...just remember that...
