Posted this on another thread about something else, but thought I'd create a new thread here in case other people have had this issue...
One other thing that I have found with mine, which may catch you out at first, is that it won't go into anything other than normal for the first 10-12 miles after re-fuelling - presumably this is so it can adjust to the new fuel in case it is slightly different. I kept trying it the other day and once I had cleared the 12 miles it switched mid journey.
That's interesting I've never heard that spoken about before. It must just be for the newer cars as it changes with my 2year old car.
Yeah I thought it was a fault at first. I tend to drive in normal most of the time, so didn't notice it for the 1st month as I didn't use sport. The 2nd time it did this recently was recently and it did let me change it after a few miles so it's not like a hard reset fixed it. The next time I go to fill up I'll turn it off in sport or individual and see what happens when I start it back up again.
I prefer the sport mode (individual - engine in sport, everything else normal as I don't like the engine sound in sport) feel to the throttle pedal if I want to have a bit of fun, as it's a lot more linear I think. I've been driving in individual for most of the last week!
Hopefully other people with newer cars will report the same or I'll need to take it in to get looked at!
Ok so looks like is a fault as its been stuck in individual since this morning. Will need to get it looked at by dealer I guess
Latest update is I went in to the dealer as it's an intermittent fault to see how best to proceed. As they didn't have anyone free to look at that time, I decided to do a bit more problem determination myself to see under what conditions it happens.
I have a new theory that it's because I am pressing the button before the head unit has finished initialising - i.e. on the nav screen it says 'checking navigation data', or on the car screen it doesn't give you the mpg figures straight away as it says it's initialising. This seems to be proving correct so far, as I am now trying it everytime I start the car, but after it's finished initialising, and have not had the issue repeat so far.
I think it was stuck in the same mode for the whole day before, because as I was so eager to check if it was still happening, each time I started the car, I pressed the button when it was initialising.

I sometimes want to change mine to Normal before I start it up first thing in the morning as the exhaust is quite throaty and is next to my neighbours bedroom. A couple of times it hasn't wanted to change but on those occasions the actual screen to change never appeared, just nothing happened when I pressed the button.
I was probably being too keen a bit like yourself.

Sounds like what mine is doing - the menu on the touch screen displaying the 4 modes doesn't appear, and when pressing the button it just flashes up the current mode on the screen in-between the speedo and rev counter.
It can be changed when the ignition is on (but the engine not started), so long as it's not initialising.
The fact yours has done it as well confirms my theory (in my mind anyway) - just need a little patience. I may try doing it on purpose when it's initialising just to confirm at some point.
