8 months in and bearing in mind I've had: one robbery where the car was stolen, an almighty fight involving the Ombudsman for my minor repair, alloy wheel and tyre cover to be transferred-which I won :-) and a fight with VW to transfer the service plan. These are my honest views!
The car is utterly joyful. When it was stolen-house burgalry in the middle of the night, child and wife asleep upstairs-I gave genuine thought to writing my experience with a nice car off and replacing it with something less conspicuuous. It was only how much I had fallen for her that I wanted another. Aviva were spectacularly good-new car ordered straight away and only the dealer held things up. I have owned an M3, then lost it all and this is my first "good" car since I rebuilt and maybe that makes me appreciate it even more, but I enjoy this more than the beamer (I don't think it's as fast, as well built or gets as many comments, but it has something does the gti which I can't quite put my finger on). The interior is wonderful and after making the mistake of having it in "economy" for a few weeks I put it in sport and have never looked back.
The sat nav/music thingy (I'm so poor technically) seems twitchy but does everything I want. I think the colour makes it for me: I love my night blue. My biggest gripe is the VW dealers, who seem so lacking compared to BMW.
My battle with the minor repair people took me to the limit of my patience, but they backed down, which was showed me never to accept a first, second, third or final answer! The tyres do me fine, despite the nightmare stories and I think the keyless is a fantastic thing to have.
Have just driven from Saddleworth to Watford and back and the drive is wonderful (especially with Bruce Springsteen providing the soundtrack). The Sat Nav is really poor considering the price but I'm glad it comes with it anyway.
I honestly love my car and feel the burgalry, fight with VW and the ombudsman has just made me appreciate it more. Just had a look at her and thought "bloody hell, you're a good lookin' car.
No reason for writing this, I just know if I said this out loud to the Missus she'd think I'd gone mad.
Happy Friday.

I agree they are greats cars. Surprised you say the sat navigation is poor though I find it quite good.

Thanks for the writeup . So what kind of car is it? Obviously a Golf - but what model and spec?
-
Sorry, should have said! A gti with the performance pack in night blue. The original one didn't have the PP but the replacement did.

Great story and write up. I can tell you most other half's don't appreciate nice motors and how they make you feel. Sorry if that sounds sexiest but I'm just talking from experience.
Can I ask - do you notice much difference between the standard GTI & your new one with PP?
-
Honestly no mate. I notice the breaks are red and the fact gti symbol is in red rather than silver but other than that no.
Completely agree about the other halves!

I appreciate your honesty jpo and suspected as much. Don't want to cause a rumpus but I reckon for most GTI drivers who don't drive their cars at 9/10ths wouldn't notice if it had PP or not.
Very glad to hear your enjoying you GTI. Let's hope all goes well going forward. Don't see many night blues. They look great and really highlight the red accents.

Cheers mate, really appreciated.

I remember when you first posted about your car being stolen. I'm really pleased everything has been sorted out now and you are back to being a GTI driver again
Your taste in music is impeccable also, he is my most played artist of all time by a distance

Can't wait for the boss to play Manchester mate! What a guy!

I still write directions on a piece of paper :embarrassed:
jpo - I too recall you post when you had your car stolen. Really glad you are enjoying your new one and can put the bad times behind you.
PS - I doubt I would be able to tell the difference between PP and without, don't really care either just had to have the red calipers!
